Here's an odd one :

Peugeot was a diverse company and had a range of subsidiaries making goods such as children's toys, tools, household appliances and firearms. They had a marine division making high quality wooden motor boats. In the mid 1920's someone came up with the idea of an amphibious motor car. As usual with these type of creations it was not particularly good as a boat or a car. It needed a gentle and solid ramp to enter or leave the water. The idea sank just like the prototypes did if too great an approach or departure angle was attempted.
