Christian's R10S

How is it going.... Very slowly.

All the metal work has been finished which included flaring the rear guards. Front fish mouth was made from fibreglass.

Engine has been mostly rebuilt, bigger cams, light weight flywheel. Ported and polished the head, needed new exhaust valves as they were pitted.

I'm ready to send the body out for paint but no one can come and quote it due to the whole lock down thing. I'm also recovering from spinal fusion surgery so can't currently do anything.

Yeah sorry to hear about your back, glad your project is still plugging away :)

It's been a long time between updates but it finally has some paint on it. I've painted the engine bay, boot, inside, wheel arches and the middle part or the car.

Engine bay is grey as are the inside of the arches. The arches also got a coat of stone chip under the colour paint. The roof was not straight. After a coat of epoxy I sprayed on some Upol reface, probably about 1.5mm thick. It was then blocked and sprayed with high build primer. Upon blocking it again some small dents were found which were fixed with glazing filler. I sprayed a thinned out primer sealer coat then the colour straight over the top. The colour is Ford blood orange, you are going to see me coming.

I'm now getting the doors ready as they don't need much work, they are currently in epoxy but will only need a little additional filler then some high build. Front and rear guards will need more work but it has to be done on the car as they change shape when you bolt them on and I'm not happy with the curve on the flared rear guards so I'll need to fix it up with some more filler to take out a flat spot. Front and rear panels have high build on them but they will need to be blocked with the guards on to make sure everything lines up.

My bootleg spray booth is a marquee inside my shed, it's 6x3m so fits the car with plenty of space. I have an explosion proof extraction fan sucking through a piece of fibreglass spray booth filter that is 1x0.5m and a piece of fish pond carbon filter sponge. Seems to work fairly well. When spraying pieces I just push the car down one end and throw a cover over it.

In answer to the previous question about the fish mouth, I made foam plug and a mould from the plug. If I had to do it again I think I would have just done it in sheet metal.

I'll need to start collecting rubber bits soon so hopefully some one has a list.

Chris,
Thanks for posting the update and photos. I was only thinking about you and the car this morning. It's looking good.
Cheers

Hi Christian,
You have my every sympathy for rate of progress, it is an arduous task to do properly by your self.

Vert well done, just love the colour.
Go for it !!!

Ray

I just love that colour. Great choice.
What years did Ford use it? My sister had a 1978 Ford Escort in full poverty spec, it didn't even have a radio or cigarette lighter. I think it was that colour. The Escort had a black vinyl interior, so we named it "The Jaffa." She had it for years, always drove it flat out everywhere, a sensational little car so your choice of colour is probably a good omen. (If you believe that sort of thing...)

The colour is ford blood orange, it's a colour used on the XR6 and XR8 falcons. It contrasts very well with the grey engine bay. The plan is to have a grey racing stripe but as it's a single stage paint that'll be done using vinyl.

Dude fantastic! And great setup with the marque inside the shed! love it.

Glad you are at the shiny parts of the program :)

I almost messaged you last Sunday. I was in Rockdale for the afternoon while family went shopping.

Progress, body and guards are painted. Doors are in high build primer ready to block.

Don't look too close, still needs the colour paint sanded. Also not super happy with the gap on one side of the fish mouth, not putting bumper bars on it so no hiding it.
