Chinese cars to be badged as Moskvich and manufactured at ex Renault plant.

Not quite accurate. AZLK is not returning, it is only a popular name for the new car to be produced at the ex Renault plant in Moscow. No retro Aleko although some would like to see one. How far the Kama electric is from series production isn't clear. The top selling cars in Moscow last month were Chinese makes. The firms that made components for the Renaults and Nissans (they still make spares for them) will adapt to make parts for the new models. I believe the local content required is quite high.
The way the Soviet car industry worked was to buy a design and production equipment from a foreign maker and to then adapt the vehicles to local production.

No, it said "Soviet era car maker to return, Soviet era car company is planning a revival in Russia". Which isn't happening. Usual quality journalism from Drive, they've picked up a Reuters release from last week and done a re-write. The long dead MG was not "revived" by its name being placed on another car. It's not innocent semantics there is a very deliberate play going on with this western reporting I won't go into here.

This Reuters article that says Chinese cars are being badged as Moskvich and manufactured at ex Renault plant?🤷‍♂️

The reuters report correctly carries the Russian press release, the Drive article reports the return of a zombie company which isn't happening. Brands are revived like Talbot, Bugatti or MG, the companies which once used them are not.
The Russians have the same doubts about Chinese manufactures as we do and know earlier Chinese cars were not strong enough for their roads. The new products may be better but long service life and Chinese manufacture are not two phrases one often finds together. Australian buyers of the new Dong Feng Citroen C5X will no doubt let us know if Chinese durability has improved.

Of more interest is the deal signed to export Iran Khodro's Tara model to Russia. This is based on the PSA PF1 platform shared by the Peugeot 2008 and Citroen Elysee. Similar to the Peugeot 301 (sold in Africa) and Citroen C3-XR. When PSA was forced by the Americans to withdraw from the IKAP joint venture in 2018 Iran Khodro went ahead with a modified platform with some assistance from Dong Feng. The Tara has a 1.6 litre engine and an option of a six speed automatic. Some 10,000 of the earlier Peugeot 405 based model have already been exported to Russia. Future models from Iran Khodro will be Peugeot/Citroen based via Dong Feng. Turkey and Iran both have major PSA based car industries.

You'd have to say PSA was very unlucky with Iran and "circumstances". :(

It's certainly made Tavares risk averse. A legacy deal dating back to the Shah and Rootes and the Hillman Hunter. Profitable to both parties. I wonder if PSA gets a (sanction free) drink from all these PSA designs being made in Iran and Azerbaijan.

About as much chance as Peugeot making a new 203 for me. When car companies do retro it often ends up as something else again.
The Skoda dealer had the smaller Tatra on display at the Melbourne Motor Show in 1951. Took a stack of orders. Unfortunately supply didn't eventuate and all the deposits had to be returned.

Production of the Chinese JAC JS4 is underway and the car on sale. It will eventually be replaced with a domestically designed model but they had to get production underway to avoid job losses. The long term project is the production of the KAMA electric but there isn't even an EV battery manufacturing facility yet. The problem of battery charge loss in Russian cold that Tesla is unable to solve also has to be addressed before electrics become practical for such a cold climate.
