Rear engined 4WD, courtesy of VW!

I could say, my fave cars together at last. But I reckon that would be a bit of a dodgy combination :)

It seems an awfully complicated way of making a R12 into a 4WD. Would of thought it would have been far easier to use the R12 motor with a modified gearbox driving a diff in the back. Guess these guys would have to use what is readily available in the way of parts and VW would be pretty common there.
Handling is likely to be 'interesting' with the motor in the back.

cheers!

Actually I think it is only rear wheel drive.
The text says, in french, something to the effect that it was impossible to find Renault spares in Mexico. But this doesn't stop José who loves his R12, he just takes a VW engine and put it in the back, and put a fuel tank in front...

Ahhh...you might be right there, Magnus. I'm hopeless with French - I just thought I could see a thin drive shaft going forward to a diff looking thing, but I realise now that the shaft is probably the gear selector shaft. Thanks.

That was an interesting combination, I guess you will have to think again about what you will do to the 12 while the engines out.

The Jackymobile of November is intersteing as well, could give Simon some ideas for that R4 of his. I tried posting a pic but the link doesn't want to work so have a look at www.thejackytouch.com

The link to the photos is under Jackymobile du mois in the top section of the menu frame of the site's home page.
cheers!

Strange, it's got the Gordini air intake on the bonnet and the fuel cap on the back guard like a Gordini. Surely someone wouldn't do this to a real R12 Gordini.

Ren
cheers!

Hmm, nice job of retro fitting a later model vent outlet on the C-pillar of that 12G.......

Now Simon, you wouldn't be taking the piss would you?
I saw that too but I believe the 12G was in production until 1975 which would have been around the time the C pillar was revised.
If you see the photo for the rear, it has the small pre-update tail lights (but no reversing lights) and what could be a Gordini badge on the right side of the boot lid. The Godini's didn't have bumper bars either but these are just bolt on so could have been added.
I have seen an R12 GL here that had the revised C pillar with the old style front and small tail lights.
But you're right, it's probably a fake.

Ren
cheers!
