Changing the gear stick in C2

Is it possible to take the C2 gear stick end off? It doesn't look like it can be screwed off.
I was thinking of replacing it with a momo chrome knob or something like that. The original gear stick looks a bit flimpsy.

Also the plastic circular base of the gear stick looks cheap too. Is there a carbon fibre replacement part I can get?

just pull the top of the stick really hard and it will come off
