Thought I might start single thread to collate my Pugs in one place so as not to flood forums, the 205 project will stay in its own for now but once the major work is done will continue in here.

Im Based in South-east Vic, thats where they all live, i'll start by year ascending -

1 - 1964 Peugeot 404 Sedan, Bought out of Horshom in April 17' Barn-find deal, I believe the first and only previous owner to be Ivan Pearson, a Tractor and agricultural spares dealer and Mechanic.
Engine was sized and head corroded under the valve seats in Cylinder 1.
This will be a mechanical revamp, in an attempt to keep it original and stock, body will be sealed and rust proofed but not refinished, 404 original rat -

3 - 1992 Peugeot 505 GTI familiale
Swapped a 306GTI6 for this wagon from a fella out of Canbrah, it had a great body and good paintwork, the interior is pretty good also, up around 300,000ks on the 2.2 petrol with an auto box. When I did the deal, the previous owner did the timing belt and a service, on the way to the meeting point in Albury, he called and told me that it had stumbled a couple of times on the way down, thinking nothing of it i went ahead, a month later the timing belt went and mash mash mash...
Attempted to sell it of to deal with my overwhelming disappointment, luckily nobody stepped up, even for as little as $750...I have stashed it away for the time being, however it is just about to come out of hibernation and Visit Bill H for a new force induction breath of life, much, much more to come on this car...

4 - 1993 Peugeot Sr2 405 SRI

Picked this one up very, very cheap through a online auction, with rego and 190k on the clock for a kick around car, and for clubsport stuff, it's great, a few front end bushes and its a rocking car, the 5 speed can be a little notchy, will give it a good service and some new trans oil and continue throwing it around for a while.

5 - 1998 Peugeot 306 GTI6
This is my 3rd GTI6, and forth 306, Bought through AF also, originally for a friend as I had my on identical car, though, not as good in some areas, This car has 200k, and is quite neat, I poly bushed the front end and put a pod filter on it for a giggle, the interior is impeccable, the gear knob is solidly in one piece, and the bolsters are 100% intact! The engine pulls very well, and sounds fantastic with the induction, and small hole in the rear muffler , in two minds about what to do with it, though leaning toward keeping a hold on it, finishing off some body work, due for a timing belt too, will put a bush kit in the shifter. Every time i drive it i fear for my licence....

Thats it....for now :roflmao:

Don't want to swap the GTi6 seats for some almost as good ones? 🤣

How are the door cards?

Nice collection.

I'm reluctant to pull this car apart, I had the seats in my last car recovered and had to sell a kidney for it...

The 505 wagon... are you going to turbo the 2.2 or will it be V6? Bill H is the V6 man...

Whilst indeed the V6 man, we are going to stick with the 4 pot for now and see what we can do, with one car about to go through the stresses of engineering i figured the wags can wait

In over news, after 5 months of soaking and excising I have freed the 404 bottom end, I have another head kindly acquired from Graham W, will get a Gasket set and bolt it back together soon.

Still after a key, apparently and pre 65(?) model key will work for this car

You're lucky Cal.......... I almost took the 505 wagon at that give away price. It could have kept my STi company until I was ready but accounts dept. had other ideas! :nownow: Couldn't see the problem myself.
Hope you find that Bosch key soon.
Cheers Deane.

Over the last couple of week whilst waiting on parts (STILL!!) I'v tinkered with the 306, traced the knock back to the ARB bushes, new ones on the way, and removed the rear muffler to weld up for now, i also swapped over the shifter L arm as i thought i had one with less wear on the ball, might be better, but only marginally, from what i can tell theirs really no way to address these now, the L Arm in NLA and the ball is molded onto the arm, now that i have a spare i am going to try measure it up and 3D print a new ball, strip the old part of and pin in the print, now sure how long i can make it last but will be interesting to try.

On the 404 I have gathered most everything I need to get it going again with no small thanks to the AF lot, I have a new old head, gaskets, water pump, new Rad hoses and found a carb Rebuild kit from Classic Carbs that I'm part way though implementing, enjoying the Carb process, had Twin webbers on my first car, a VW 1600 Bug and always meant to go over them, better late than never.
So far my only issue with the Solex is the Throttle shaft, the seals/bushings have flogged out allowing the shaft to run on the carb body and worn the shaft quite some, from the looks of it the seals run on an un-damage section of the shaft so i cant see it having any effect, is this common with these carbs?

One thing i have had some luck with on the 205, Purchased G.W's Oz rims which are a beautiful fitment for the ginormous Brembos, so I'm able to run direct fitment and no spacers. They are apparently not the strongest of rims, so will monitor them closely to begin with, but pretty happy regardless for most of the driving this car will see.

Aiming have it fully sorted to take it up to the Adelaide Rally in early December.

Heres a few Pics -

404 Carbs done, the rebuild kit I had didn't contain the throttle shaft seal strangely, I have put two O rings per side with silicon grease, I don't really expect them to last, but it's very easy to swap them out, and I can be sure they are sealing for now anyway.

Head, water pump and carb back into the 404.

And a new toy to get involved in some rally fun

You got it dirty already, Cam 85 Si, it has sat at my place doing nothing for months now, so passed it on to Cal.
I now have Cals 405 SRi so if you wanted to buy it or need parts get in touch with me.

All back together and turning over, can't seem to get it to fire, getting a little popping and such, I'm not confedent on fireing order and lead positions, could someone confirm what I have here?

Rotate the leads around the cap, combined with turning the distributor backwards and forwards. Plenty of adjustment available, unlike a 504 Ti where everything has to be spot on correct.

Cal,

1 is next to the vacuum advance on the dizzie and rotate leads clockwise from there. 1342.

Dan

The distributor drive gear may have been fitted wrongly, so if swinging the distributor around doesn't help you could shift the leads.

I drained the tank and filled it with clean fuel, but got carried away and forgot to flush through the lines so thinking it may be just 40 year old fuel refusing to ignite properly, but even if i give it some down the carb its a bit all over the place.
I didn't move the Distributor body, so relying on it being correct-ish, hopefully i'll get a bit of time this evening to give it another go, got a nice big diesel battery on charge to give me plenty of cranking time!

As an aside, my good these things are easy to hotwire, 4 screws, nothing broken, thats it... what where the theft rates like on 404's in their day?
