Hi guys,

A young friend who has just got his first job is thinking of buying the above and I have to do the initial inspection. The trouble is, I have no idea which engine is in the thing. It's a 2005 model; is this still the TU? Did they go over to the ET 16V at any point?

What are the timing belt intervals for these?

Any help appreciated.

Cheers

Stuey

Not 206s only 207s it would be a electronic throttle 1.4 8 valve watch for cam belt failure and if it’s got shitty coolant don’t touch it really common for blown worn away gaskets and for some reason autos fail early with the low power engines

Thanks David; any idea of timing belt replacement time/km?

It's a manual and very well looked after but as you'd expect, I bet the t/belt is due. Cars this age are commonly sold needing a belt.

When you say watch for belt failure, do you just mean make sure the belt is changed (or account for it in the negotiations)?

Cheers

My 04 206 1.4 Auto is running fine now, and didn’t take much to resurrect it. When you do the timing belt, do the water pump and auxiliary belt too at the same time.

Mine has 185k on it and is running fine. I have the owners manual downloaded and could email it to you if you pm me your address or they can be readily downloaded yourself. It has the maintenance schedules in them.

Check water temp and thermo fan operation. They can run up to 90C but it can vary between 70-90 on mine at various times.

Cheers KB, I have the owner's manual (I have a GTi). I didn't think the timing belt info was in there. Must look.

We are only looking at the car tomoz so it's a bit early to plan repairs - who knows, they may have just replaced the belts! Or it might be rubbish. But thanks yes I had thought of the fans etc.

Yeah 80k 4 years working on Peugeot’s for way to long these are really common for snapping belts the 1.4 if no proof neg that out of the price the belt itself is dead easy years ago I was doing a bunch of Berlingos out of work for cashies had 12 of them to do my son who was 13 at the time ended up doing some of the belts he had them down to about 30 min at the end now his a carpenter go figure but yeah would be doing rollers and water pump if I owned them .

The car was no good. Timing belt due, tyres cracked, air con not working, requiring new discs and pads - all under an apparent full service history!

The search goes on.
