I built it up in 1998, went great, it was always a battle with the rust though so you can imagine what it's like after 20 years standing. Of course every hydraulic cylinder is seized and the pedals as well, a common 404 problem.

This is the fuel that was in the tank, black and thick, just oozed out.

Thinking of reshelling but very hard to find something suitable, maybe just bite the bullet and get stuck right into the front pillar/airvent area, large amount of reconstruction needed there. Also, rear left guard needs lots of work, water has got into the seam between inner and outer guards. On the plus side the floors, radiator crossmember and buttress panels have been done. Pretty bad under the rear bumper as usual, can just do some bronze welded patches here as you can't see it.

Been there, done that. Time consuming and somewhat difficult, but doable!

It’s Zac Edwards old 404, would have a warm 2litre being a Edwards car
It was sold with a twin carb 2 litre, this motor featured in US documents as fitted to the 404 wagon, figured it was close enough to qualify for the Historic regs. Went well on the primary carb but made no difference when the secondary was opened up! Don't know why but it now has a 504 square port, hopefully no bumps in the exhaust ports but no hardened seats either. Seems very good, plenty of compression and runs well.

Epp! what a treat to get back the car you set up ~20yrs ago.

Glad to hear the floors, cross member are ok!.

I've knocked back a few of my old cars over the years, same reason, never used and left to rot outside, although in this case Zac did a heap of events with good results before he had to sell a car and that was the only one that anyone wanted to buy!
