Been scouring through AliExpress for various parts. Came across metal sunroof sliders to replace the plastic sunshade for the Pano roof that apparently invariably fail.

We were initially looking at a vehicle on Melbourne which broke during the demonstration ona vehicle that only cracked 78k km

This could be a longer term fix for anyone that has experienced it failing. Be a matter of removing the roof lining to get to it with a few YT videos out there giving a guide.

Just found this amazing item on AliExpress. Check it out!

Thanks for that. The metal repair items could be a good idea, however I think there are two things to consider being 1) the original material is a molybdenum loaded plastic so it slides quietly and 2) the track it runs in will not allow a diameter exceeding the original size. This new lug therefore would appear to need to be swaged/crushed on to the old cable and filed down to size. The cable is effectively a low-pitch LH thread, so tapping the metal lug to allow it to screw on would not use a regular tap.

There are also repair items that are moulded plastic on a short length of cable. That's a fine idea, but the cable has to be welded to the original and there is a fairly tight turn in the cable path at the front, so the question would be how long it will last. Brazing a lug on to the cable end is likely the most pragmatic repair route for a long term fix. Or you secure the blind in the closed position with some self tappers or cable ties and disable the switch.

To fit a new blind unit in B78 Picasso, you have to remove the glass. It's the same glass and same blind unit in both 5 and 7 seaters. To fit a cable you would need to lower the roof trim, remove the motor, removed the rear plastic beam of the sunblind assembly and then you slide the cable out the back. Left and right cables are of different length.

This repair lug set on a short piece of cable is made this way so the diameter of the cable is not increased and it still fits in the track.
