Does anyone know of an aircon place that knows French cars (Pug 206 to be precise)
That is in the SE suburbs of Melbourne. I've been to 3 and had hoses, compressor and
gas (several times) all to no avail. I would tear my hair if I had any.

The last time it was charged with Minus 30 Hydrocarbon refrigerant, which I'm uneasy about.

ps I meant to say their repairs didn't last long.

Although I get why you're asking, they shouldn't need to know French cars. The 206 has a standard aircon system with a Japanese branded compressor (Sanden, although made in France). They all work the same. What you really need is a recommendation of a reliable aircon specialist in that area who knows their stuff, regardless of brand.

From what you've posted, maybe they've missed a pin hole in the condenser (the radiator thing at the front of the car).

I think sometimes it’s about finding somebody who gives a shit! I had an Xm air con regassed.... about 2 weeks later it had no gas... took it back and asked them to have a look... they told me it needed a TX valve and they couldn’t get one. I searched high and low for a new one and couldn’t find one... had a used one that they told me they didn’t want to fit. I went to fit it and found that the original one wasn’t tight, but also found leaking from round the fill point and around one other joint on the system. Took it back and asked them to go over it and change any o rings that might be leaking..... around 8 months later... no gas again... took It somewhere else who imediately found a leak in the same fill point.
similar thing with a 405 I had. It lasted around a month... took it back and was told that it would never be right because it was too old. I could see green stuff round the compressor so replaced that and changed alll the o rings in the system and took it to another place. They gassed it and I asked them to look for leaks. They found none and told me it was in good nick. That was 3 years ago and I drove that car last week and air con is still awesome. I’d had to have it gassed about every 8 months for the few years before doing the compressor and the guys who always did it just said it was the way it was.

Just a thought. My daughter has a 206. Year or so ago I borrowed it for a trip and the aircon stopped working (I assume that's your problem...). I had it regassed as an attempt to solve the problem but the problem was still there. Fortunately I stopped spending money at this point and handed it back to her.... in fact from her non-mechanical observations it hadn't been working well (or at all?) for some time. Not sure of the sequence of events, but I eventually observed the console and the off/on light for the AC in the console. I would turn it on, but soon afterwards the light would go off. The light itself was almost impossible to see in the sunlight (and so determine whether it was off or on). It was at this point with my own Peugeot specialist mechanic who was attempting to trace the problem. Mentioned this observation to him, his eyes lit up, and he sourced a S/H console from a wrecker. Problem solved.

A relatively cheap fix - if that's the problem!

Angru, that 'green stuff' is what's on my 206 compressor at the moment - that's the colour of the refrigerant oil used. As a result, I'm sourcing a new compressor right now. Up till a couple of weeks ago my aircon was really good. Once there's oil on the outside, the gas has leaked.

Generalisation, all 206 variants the aircons are sh....t. Never ending trouble.
Daughter got rid of car as she spent so much money on aircon to get it working and it was still hopeless

Not as bad as the first 308s have been, done a shed load of condensers could be worse those Renault POS with evap housings and pipes rusting out.
