Well the 505 GR '83 I bought the year before last is now blowing warm air.
Would this unit be using R12 or R134A?
Can it be determined simply by inspection?

Rang a conditioner place who said it would be $260 to convert.
Wanted to use the old gas but he said it was no longer available.

Does anyone re-gas with R12 in Sydney?

Peter.

:peugeot: I don't know about Sydney but I get my cars aircon' regassed with a substitute for the old gas for about $80.00

A conversion to R134A usually has a sticker under the bonnet somewhere with a date for when it was done or last serviced.

Ring around for quotes on converting but $260 sounds quite reasonable.. considering a re-gas is normally around $110, plus the cost of the new receiver/dryer and the labour to do all the work, it's not bad at all

Ring around also as there are still places with R12 in stock. My understanding is that it is illegal to produce any more R12 but existing stockpiles can be used until they are finished, so you should easily find someone with R12 in stock. Ring some of your local auto electricians and mechanics...
