a little massage with the sledge, and boy howdy it's twice as comfortable already. tbh i'd drive with the wire-frame seat, but it probably wouldn't pass roady so guess i'm off to clark rubber for added squish.
also finally got a battery popped in, not starting when asked, but i assume that's the varnish fuel

I've graduated !! Bachelor's of Chemical Sciences, (Materials & Nanoscience) from The University of Queensland. :D
now that the celebratory drunken stupor has worn off, time to get this nugget back on the road.
now that there's a battery in, it's not running as the fuel pump has stopped pushing the go-juice. also, found out that this thing has single port-injection. weeeirrdd.

Haven't been bothered to hit clark rubber to re-flesh the front seats, so figured i'd do the head-rests

faark, what a stitch up.

next step is either continue ignoring how it's not running and keep making a nice interior because upholstery is fun, or tow it up onto the street so's I can access the underside and get it ripping around again.

Congrats on graduating.

Now you're allowed to use the big boys' hammer.

Nice headrest covers too. Just need to turn them inside out.

What's wrong with the pump? Have you checked it's got pixie juice?

Haven't been able to get to mechanical work, but finally finished up the back seats.

velvet blanks sewn up

and hand sewn onto the stripped seats, using sort of wooly stretch black for the part that'll be cargo area lining.

not the best stitchline, but it'll be out of sight out of mind for the most part, an i'm not exactly going for car show, just for what makes me smile, and the face part is very satisfying to look at and touch

finally, installed. time to get this rig running because i have to move it from this house soon. more to come in the near future

yeeeeehaww managed to pull it up onto the street, so some proper work can get done. Not starting as it is, but after i gapped & refitted the spark plugs, sprayed some carb cleaner down the throttle body and it fired / ran off that for a second, so ignition is fine, spark is good, no bad noises from the motor, just needs fuelling sorted.
headlight lens fell off

anyone know how best to drain the fuel tank on a rig such as this? it's awfully varnished but try as i might i can't seem to siphon any of that sweet sweet guzzoline, might be some sort of antisiphon? locking fuel cap so it's possible.

got the 505 on all four wheels the first time in like two years as well so that's fun

The 205 fuel pump will be seized for sure. You need to get every drop out of the tank before installing a new pump.

it sure was, and the like rubber sock thing holding it in place in the carrier had started to dissolve, nasty. i wonder if i could swap in the pump from my 505?

well there's your problem, pump must be chock full of plastic sludge

172426184_732433904091824_8462103461109584297_n.jpg

siphoned a good 20L of varnish out of the tank through the carrier hole, mum's mower won't be running out of gas anytime soon i tell you what. a good amount of weird black chunks in the fuel, so should probably run it through a filter before use.

next step is to get the volvo registered so I can stop riding a bike to supercheap, clean the tank as well as I can, new fuel filter, new fuel pump, replace all the soft fuel lines with fresh stock and get this nug running. oh, and sit somewhere well ventilated for a while, those petrol fumes have me a lil woozy.

Take the filler tube off at the bottom where it connects to the tank and drain into a wide open container like something used for an oil change.
It’s potentially messy and dangerous so keep smokers and anything electrical a safe distance away.

Unleaded fuel is terrible once it is a few years old. 505 pump is external but you should be able to squeeze it into the assembly. Don't know where the pressure regulator is in an Si, hope it can cope with the different pump? those 505 style pumps are very cheap, also suit VL Commodore and Skyline.

grabbed a generic fuel pump from autobarn, slapped her in, couple liters of decent fuel in there and the nugg fired straight up :DDDD

170483110_288877026059784_7415865436635215972_n.jpg

smoking pretty good, brakes are absolutely horrendous, it clunks and shakes and coolant overflows but those are problems for later, and i am very happy that the nugg lives once again

Si brakes are inadequate, bolt on later model ones, 8 valve 306 or 1.6 206 are good. May not be able to fit the 13 inch wheels though? Also, it will probably need a new master cylinder.

progress is slow but some is being made. aired up the tyres finally, two by two ferrying them to the nearest gas station, all were at ~14 psi so it's driving considerably better after that's done. one seemed to have a broken valve, so lucky that it came with 6 wheels, got a spare for once lol. also got to finally have a look at the brakes & suspension bits. Rear seems to be in good working order, all bushes seem alright, no weeping from any of the hoses

njfnjd.JPG
njdknskjn.JPG

the same cannot be said of the front, which has several issues apparent.
both front brake flex lines are weeping fluid, not the best

and the driver's front cv shaft boot is split, so that will be needing fixed before any real driving can be done.
175544731_798404661053136_4206040555831296757_n.jpg

bushes and tie-rod ends, ball joints etc seem ok though, so that's a definite plus.

fuel system is buttoned up and running solid, got the seats all back in, been bleeding the coolant system off and don't seem to be having any cooling issues, but it's been smoking blue once up to temp, i'm hoping it's something bung with the pcv system, because if it's the valve stem seals that's a hell of a job, and i'm hoping to drive away soon. maybe i'm lucky and it's just the remnants of the varnished fuel that i couldn't get from the tank & lines.
also of the few block rips i've done with the tyres inflated boy howdy this car is fun on the bun.
list of tasks is still long but getting shorter, need to figure out why the indicators don't work, and what's wrong with the driver's headlight, new winshield wiper blades, wash, make driver's seat less awful, register, hoon.

does anyone have a cool shift knob? thinking to grab either a DBZ dragon ball knob, or an old holden or pug one with a lion on it.

Don't worry about the smoke it will be OK when you are driving. Replace the valve stem seals when you do the head gasket, about time for one probably.

OK, I get the red white and blue colour scheme for the car, but extending that concept out to the fingernails and toenails is going a bit far methinks - wait, hang on - there was that graduation party, right? 'Tis terrible what ones friends do to one when one is unconscious...don't ask me how I know this.....

I will admit that I sometimes get carried away with the theming of things

work grinds ever on on the nugmobile

two new tyres, singapore's finest RADARs, so we're back on four good tyres (rear had good tread and weren't dry-rotted). Coolant is in & bled, temp stays stable now, new brake lines are in, went to bleed the brakes and snapped the bleeder screw off yaaaaaaaaayyy. hopefully the ol screwdriver and hammer will be able to get that out, in for a good afternoon of swearing and busted knuckles soon.
in other news, the indicators work, but only if i push on the hazard light button a little bit? like not enough to turn the hazards on, but in maybe 1mm. must be a loose connection in the back of the hazard button, i've heard this is a common problem. the joys of old electronics.

The progress of this build looks cool despite all of the other issues that you are encountering. I can't wait to see how it will turn out.

Tangent but sort of relevant, I finally towed the 505 out of the garage and down to my dad's house.
181942124_189616296320658_5739210750815815467_n.jpg

it's been probably a year, year and a half since this garage has been empty lol, the nug can go in now so i don't have to roll around on the asphalt in the street anymore, everything's coming up milhouse.

first time i've ever towed something and dear god do i not want to do that ever again. maybe if i build a racecar someday. maybe i should build the 505 into a racecar, hmmmmmm
