Looking at a 91 BX GTI with 307k on the clock
What are these like with regards to aging, is the kms too high and what should I expect ro pay for it?
Always loved them and would love to get into a Citroën finally!

Is it a GTI or GTI16v? It's a minor distinction but makes a big difference with regards to parts, servicing and value. As a general BXs don't attract much money as they are still just seen as old cars rather than "classics"

The BX is arguably the best handling and most sporty of Citroens. Not much lard to change direction or stop. The engine is a long liver if looked after, so 307K in itself may not mean much without the car's history. The weak point of the BX is the plastics get brittle and crack/ break with age. Their bodies are not particularly prone to rust ( galvanised ), but the A pillars are susceptible. Sunroofs will leak if the drainage channels are blocked (check floor carpet in rear compartment for dampness). EFI engines have been known to catch fire , so fuel rail hoses need replacing if not done recently. Cambelt should be changed every 80k kms. The hydraulic flow divider can block. First sign of that effects steering. Rear swing arm bearings can/do rust , but can be replaced. One of Gandini's better car designs.
Having owned three and still have a 16V. They are an underrated hot hatch. A future classic, if any are left.

Thanks, it's a GTI 16v

That is quite high kilometers for any car but it depends a bit if they are highway kilometers or around town kilometers. Just check all the normal items including gearbox synchros, when was last timing belt fitted (they need to be done every 4 years), LHM leaks, suspension joints, rear arm bearings, spheres pressures (5). Look for rust under the bonnet and windscreen as these panels were not galvanised.

Cheers, Ken
