I noticed that for about 300 pounds, it is possible to pick up a set of 85mm liners from the UK. All good, until you price 85mm forged pistons at 800 pounds for the set. What sort of CC increase would the 85mm pistons and liners get, and more importantly, would forged pistons be required for such an application?

If not, how much would you expect to pay to get some 85mm cast pistons made?

85mm x 88mm = 1997cc.
You can buy cast piston/liner sets for 300 pounds. That's why the forged pistons from the USA are such good value. Locally made forged pistons are $1320.

Locally made cast pistons are $150 each.

85mm also leaves almost nothing at the bottom the liner. Probably OK if you're chasing the last 10hp, but not good in the interests of reliability.

Being an undersquare engine, increasing the bore would give the engine more "perk", as in it'd be a bit more peaky wouldn't it? So the extra 100cc would be about 10hp. Not really worth it then. Especially not considering that there'll be bugger all liner left. Ah well, food for thought, and thanks for the detailed answers Peter!
