604 fr shock inserts

I always assumed 604 and 505 strut inserts were the same but I don't know for sure. I have some 604 KYB strut inserts somewhere which I could measure if that would help.

Late 504, 604 and early (pre-October 1985) 505s use the same strut inserts.

I had a quick measure and the 604 insert seemed to be shorter..... I Mean the extended length seemed to be slightly shorter than a 504/505 insert. Would this matter on a 505 GTD turbo?

I guess it depends how much its shorter by. A few mm wouldn't make much difference but over say 10mm it may be a problem as it'll reduce the spring travel by the amount it's shorter by. Is it a factory Peugeot 505 strut youre comparing the 604 strut to? Because if its an aftermarket 505 strut it may not be the correct length anyway. I'll measure the KYB 604 strut i have tomorrow so that you have another measurement to compare yours to.

Here are the measurements I got from my KYB 364002 WA-13 strut inserts: overall length is 660mm and piston alone is 207mm.

My Boge 604 struts measure 260mm extended and body is same length as 504, 505 (I'm not sure which).Sure are longer than the 207mm, so they should be ok for the 505 GTD turbo?

It seems odd that there is so much difference between the KYB and the Boge, and that the std 505 strut you have is even longer. Maybe the 604 strut I have is not the std length. If your strut is only slightly shorter than the 505 strut then it will probably work ok but I'd compare it to the strut you remove from your car and make sure it's aproximately the same length.

YES.....they fit.Having now rebuuilt the front end, I will now have to investigate why there is coolant emerging from the tailpipe. There was a perished water bung on the cooling systems so should I assume a blown head gasket..?Hoping to find a good diesel mechanic in the Mudgee area.
