Hello fellow Froggers I am rather new to this forum but wanted to share my recent experience with my 508 Peugeot.
I own a 2013 508 Estate 2.0HDI with 140,000 Km's on clock.
Doing the morning drop off temp gauge goes wildly off the clock.
Jumps out , no leaks, engine still rather cold, could hold my hand on the block and radiator.
Drove the 5Km or so home and plugged in my OBD II reader. It its only a basic reader, cannot read codes, but reported the coolant temperature as normal.
From a cold start the temp gauge would work normally until about 50 or 60 degrees and then suddenly the temp gauge would swing hard into the red. The Stop engine light comes on, and the orange engine overheat warning symbol flashes with alarms.
The thermo fan was not working and the air con was not kicking in.
Once the car was warm the temp gauge would go straight to the red on start up.
I suspected the coolant temp sender switch which I replaced. It did not fix the problem.
A local mechanic specialising in European cars could not read the engine ECU, he said it was all scrambled and doing weird things, he suspected maybe a capacitor in the ECU blown.
Off to the dealer to ease the burden on my wallet. Active codes found were P0693 and P0691. Fan relay controller and thermo fan needed to be replaced, cleared the logged faults. 2 Weeks now all good. Hopefully the mean time between failures is lengthy this time.
Happy and safe motoring.

Are you happy with the 508? I think it has the same (great) RHR engine as my 407. Even though I am happy with the 407, I am contemplating upgrade to something newer like the 508.

The 508 has the very heavily modified and more powerful RHH motor very reliable c5 ds4 / 5 308 also run it

No they didnt, I never asked the question. I assume is a bit of a fail safe mode, goes into overheat alarm because he cooling fan is not working. Forces you to act before major engine overheat occurs.

Interesting.

Clearly your ECU was NOT faulty.

I recently purchased a diagnostic interface - a Delphi DS150e.
When I looked at my 407, with the RHR motor, it was giving weird output and some items caused the software to hang.
Thanks to dmccurtayne's assistance, we worked out that the s/w thought my car had a completely different ECU to the one installed.Telling the software my car was a Citroen C5 with the RHR engine allowed everything to work correctly.

Makes me wonder if your 'Euro specialist' had the same error.

Have you sorted this yet where in Newcastle are you

508 is a great family touring car, very fuel efficient. It could do with a reverse camera as there are many blind spots, glove box is ridiculously small. Could do with larger cooling capacity either radiator or tranny as it runs high temps in the city in the peak of summer. I would like a new one but up around $60K it wont be an option

Yes it was sorted a couple of weeks back. Had a crack at it myself after reading forums I decided it was the temp sender. Then had to wait a week to book in to dealer at Cardiff
All good now

I have two 508 GT’s.
Bought he first to set me free from my Audi A5 eye watering running costs.
Liked it so much bought a second GT for my wife to replace her 407.
For a car that got (gets) Luke warm reviews by a lot of motoring publications I really struggle to know why that’s the case.
Feels far more refined to drive than my Calais did, WAY cheaper to own than my Audi, better built than my 407 was.
On my drive from Melbourne to Esperance it averaged 5.6 l/hundred.
I can’t say with much authority what the lower spec 508’s are like, but quite a fan of the GT.

The simple answer as to why no great reviews on Pugs is...THE FRENCH DO NOT PARTICIPATE...OR PERCIPITATE ...IN CHEQUEBOOK JOURNALISM.
Gent drove into a local New car Dealership..'What is my Audi worth.... OH..THAT'S EASY...EXACTLY THE SAME AS THE NUMBERS ON THE BOOT'????????? OOOO.

Hi, I know it's quite old post, I have same problem as your 508 with gauge going straight to red line. I done few thousand miles like that , no other symptoms but like to sort it out, read all your posts but where do you have a crack? As I can't find that answer in post.
Thank you

The answer is in the very first post. Read it again, through to the end of the first post.
The problem was the fan relay controller and fan motor. (engine cooling fan.) Both needed to be replaced, and stored fault codes cleared.

It was exactly as pointed to by the OBD codes. Can you get a code read, either by yourself or from someone? Simple code-only readers are cheap.

Thanks for replying, so let's be more precise, my problem starts in September driving on motorway my temperature shuts over red scale, but no overheating symptoms. At home I connected Lexia as my other car is( C5 MK1 ) .
Gauge was over red scale but temperature reads maximum 82 so I didn't bother about gauge as I know this is opening temperature for thermostat. And fans working at that stage. I was Driving like that from September with gauge over red line, now i find that topic, so it's time to try repair that fault.
Today after your replay, come back from work and checked if AC working but suprise suprise fan no kicking in.
-Setup Lexia run fan test but get message activation impossible.
-clear all faults , AC kick in and fan working but in lexia it's showing me fan speed 2 low speed engage but then suddenly fan speed 0 but fan still working when checked then again AC no kicking in.
Temperature 77-82.
Fans works temperamental , so maybe just fan relay?

Was not able to read any faults with what I had and the mechanic I took it to.
Had to go to Peugeot dealer. The fault was fixed once the fan motor relay control resistor & the radiator thermo fan were both replaced.
