Hi All,

My 1993 505 GTI automatic transmission wagon has not been properly maintained for many years so I am going through many jobs. The next job is investigating the leak of transmission fluid around the pan of the automatic transmission.

I want to start by replacing the automatic transmission pan gasket. What is the best way? Are the correct gaskets still available (EAI doesn’t have any)? Or is the best option to cut one out of gasket paper or just use RTV silicon?

Thanks in advance for any advice and tips?

Cheers,
Hugo

You can't use silicone on automatic pans. There are many tiny channels inside an auto gearbox, and if any gets into a channel it will get blocked. Then you'll never get it out.

The pan Gasket is rubber Go to a auto speciallist and they will be able to get you one

They should be available on Ebay or you could try Supercheap and check their Transgold range, or someone like Repco and check for a Ryco one.
Regards
Neil
