Hello All,

Have recently spent some time resetting the timing on my '73 504. I found that the previous person who had timed it was way off, easy fixed I advanced it on and the car has regained it's usual zippy feel.

The issue is with the timing advanced it has lifted the idle speed, I have adjusted the throttle stop screw but even with that a long way out it still idles a bit too quickly.

Haynes makes reference to a screw on the rear of the carbie, but I have been unable to locate it on either the carbie on the car or the spare I have (by the way it's an original Solex).

Any advice?
Ben

^ That man knows 504s !

Be careful you don't adjust the stop for the butterfly valve, which is at the back of the carby. It's sometimes mistaken for the throttle stop. Then again, someone may have done that previously, causing your problem

Haven't got a tiny air leak somewhere have you ? That will increase idle.

( If the vacuum advance diaphragm is ruptured and it sucks air, will that do it ? Anyone know ??)

Thanks,

Will slacken the cable a bit and see how that goes, other items all check out AOK.

Cheers
Ben
