I have a 407HDI that is showing a clunk from the drivers side front when I move off from stationary and I am wondering if the engine mount is worn . I feel the driveline makes more noise than it should . Apart from that the car behaves normally .
Can someone tell me the best way to check the mount and if it is shot are they difficult to change .

Thanks in advance , Keith

jack up the engine and see if the mounts are ok or not. common issue on the rhr engine

There is another way. With two people, open the bonnet, start the engine. Get someone to rev it while you watch it.

Typically the engine will move than it would if the mounts were good.

Or just look and see if the thing has collapsed the metal bar that goes to the engine should be more than 5 mm up from the cage of the mount

The Rh engine mount are very common to break / fail, the others break eventually, the bottom round one breaks with harsh gear changes and goes in one way.
If you let it go any longer the vibration gets even worse. There cheap at European Auto Imports in Boxhill.

Thanks very much for all of your suggestions I really appreciate it . Hopefully I can check it out tomorrow . It is a 2 Litre HDI , sorry I didn't mention that at first .

You are spot on the bar from the engine is resting on the mount so i will replace that . Should I replace the brace that fits above the mount and attaches to the body while I am at it ?
Thanks so much for your assistance

Changed the mount and brace today , what a difference . Now the noisiest thing inside the car is the heater fan . So happy with the result . The mount had collapsed about 25mm and the rubber was cracked and separating . Three weeks ago I had the gearbox mount changed by a french car specialist in the eastern suburbs and after test driving the car was told was all good to go . I must say I am perplexed . Thanks again to everyone for the advice .
