Ok this isn't exactly a pug question, did we get the Citroen BX in Australia that had the 4x4 system?
next question, is the chassis of the 405 and BX the same?
as the 405 4x4 uses the BX rear suspension, i'm just wondering if things like the fuel tank and driveshafts etc would be the same.
i'm looking into importing the lot from the UK but if i can get it here i'd be stupid to.

right, there was never a 4x4 citreon bx 16 vavle so u wont find any citreon gear. also the rear citreon suspension was never used on 4x4 405 because citreon use a hydraulic system unique to citreon. also the chassis on a citreon bx is completly different to a 405 and only has similar dimension, engine mounts etc. my dad has an mi16 and my mum has a bx 16 vavle so have had a look to find similar gear etc. hope this clears sum up.

Hi,
Big difference between a BX 4X4 and a BX 4TC.
The 4TC has a North/South motor as well as widened track etc. I don't profess to be any expert on them, but there is a guy in UK called Andrew Minney & who seems to pop up on mailing lists & bulletin boards over ther who seems to be very conversant with them.
As a starter, try this website which is dedicated to BX 4X4 of all types.

I received a message from him some time ago when my son was considering something similar. Appears the two biggest failings with them are transmission (naturally) & for some reason the exhausts are so dear that it has been known for people to scrap them when it claps out, due to the high cost involved.

Gellystar, the 405 4x4 does use the BX hydramatic suspension.
whether it was a 16V or 8V BX isn't important as if they're the same motors as the pugs (XU9J2, XU9J4) some parts are interchangable.
what i'm trying to find out is whether parts such as the transfer box, fuel tank, hydraulic tank etc are all the same as i know for sure the rear was taken from the BX to save costs.

Anyone ever converted a 4x4 BX to RWD???

Alan, i'm not referring to the BX 4TC, from memory it was a 1.8 turbo with 400bhp???

i wish that would fit, i wish even more you could find one!
I think the 4TC was about 6 inches longer than a standard BX body to get the motor in.

Andreas,
Here is Andrew Minney's e-mail addresss. If you drop him a line I'm sure he will answer all the questions you have regarding this 405/BX business.
Do us a favour though & be sure to post his answera as this guy apparently has a mountain of resources relating to the sporty side of these cars as well as general knowledge.

The 405 4x4 uses the BX rear end, but with only one sphere. I have an original Peugeot workshop manual if you're interested. Email me if you have any specific questions. The best source of spares is Japan. The Mi16 4x4 was imported there in significant numbers. It's possible to buy complete cars for approx. $4000 landed in Aus., however they can't be registered in Aus. You can't transfer the running gear because the floor plan is different to accomodate the tailshaft and fuel tank. It's a big job to cut and shut the shuttle in order to swap chassis numbers.

andreas, there a lots in japan as i have been dealing to bring a cti out here i have found out alot about pugs ..theres quite a following there!! however theres a few hiccups entailed...cars for dismantling are no longer allowed into oz and complete cars cannot be complianced.. been there ..done that. jr

in victoria you are still allowed to bring in complete wrecks.
for some reason we havent foolowed the rest of the country, so why not bring it in to victoria, register it here and then transfer it to qld, there must be some way around it.
do you know any pug wreckers in japan that would have 4x4's?
freight from the UK isn't bad, it's the fess involved that cost the most.
as long as they let the ship in there shouldnt be a problem...if i get it.

i got your pics today, should be up soon jr.

Andreas, I have a customer who until recently ran an importing business importing hi tech Jap crap, he drives a BX from Japan, its funny looking under the bonnet and seeing everthing written in chook prints. Eric now imports classic from all over, he currently has 2 SM's, a light 15, a Dyna Panhard lots of Caddies, but he would know whats in Japan and how to get it here, if your serious I can contact him.

Andreas & David,
For what it's worth, I have contact from time to time with a guy over in Japan who is right into Cits in Japan. His name is Yohsuke Narabayashi & he is part of the group which has a monsterous website specialising in BX Citroens. If you want his E-mail address I am pretty sure I have it.
Whenever I have ever asked him for anything I have always found him very co-operative. (Including translating his website into English) so nothing ever seems too much trouble for him particularly if it involves a Citroen BX. He is also a very knowledgeable character when it comes to BX's.

The BX4TC was built in limited numbers to qualify for Group B rallying. Unfortunately it came too late ie. after the 205 T16 arrived, and it was soon abandoned. It would make a good privateer car, however, as few exotic components were used. For example the engine was the 505 Turbo (N9T) and the rear differential was also from the 505.

Andrea's stop pissing around !!

You can buy a complete 405 mi16 4 wheel drive from Nz for $6500.00 Nzd ! I know where it is !!!
Some panel damage but mechanically sound, new transfer case etc....

really, and how badly is it damaged?
not 100% sure on import laws regarding compliance, as a wreck i know it'd be possible in vic.
but buying a complete car is too easy, it's alot easier to waste money by buying the parts seperately

haha, no i just know how to save well.
i realise it'd be wiser to buy the complete car, even if i ended up swapping the parts and selling off the rest of the bits but i cant afford that and the motor.

Andreas,
I finally caught up with my importing mate, if your still interested in a car from Japan he is able to help, interesting, he says all Jap imports now must be cut in half so I dont know if that affects things. Eric can give you some leeds where to buy a car and how much hassle getting it here, if you want his phone no. I get it for you.

David.
