404 Linkage Ball Socket Repair

On a 69 404- with the ZF Auto box, the shifter ball sockets are shot. Looks like they may have been pressed / glued in. They remind me of the type older Merc. diesels use in the throttle...

Anybody have some ideas on a good replacement- what sockets fit?

They are larger than what was used on 203-403 stuff. Already tried some of the old parts...

Found some ends that might work, just need to check my ball size first. I'll update if these work.

Are they the same size and type as those used in the manual gearchange linkage? If so, Der Franzose and others have them

Peugeot generally try to avoid unnecessary duplication, so they may well be the same

On my (manual ) 404 the balls were attached to the arms with a spot of braze. Not sure whether this was factory job or whether it was a later repair. I successfully reattached in situ when it ultimately gave way by cleaning well, using high grade Loctite and clamping for 24h before use. Lasted about 2 years before replaced in course of restoration ( not because it broke )

On my 1972 504 that has the ZF 3HP20 automatic, I used a ball socket (off a boot gas strut) from supercheap and adapted that.
