307 pettrol auto lockout

Our 307 has developed a clunking sound at the auto selector, and occasionally
locks the shifter in Park. Turn off ignition, start again usually fixes it. Any thoughts anyone?
 
Brake switch or the relay next to the shifter or the solenoid itself is jammed /sticking

So if the brake lights are working, its most likely the relay at the gear selector?
 
No because they have a two pole brake switch but the relay is very common to fail
