Our 307 is a 2002 1.6 auto with 240k on the clock.
Over the last couple of years it has developed a kind of graunching noise when taking off from rest. It is worse when facing uphill or accelerating hard. It only lasts for a couple of seconds until you pick up speed. It seems to be coming from the right hand side but I can't be sure. More recently I was getting clicking noises from the right when on full lock so figured the cv joints could be the culprit. I bought and installed a new right hand driveshaft but the graunching noise is still there. Could the wheel bearing be the source? It's not the sort of noise which indicates that. My only other thought is that it's coming from the dreaded AL4 gearbox - a slippage of the first gear band perhaps? The car also sometimes flares when changing from first to second gear - this is intermittent and the car will change normally after a couple of days. A lack of oil pressure in the gearbox? The box was rebuilt at 168k with new solenoids. I change the oil regularly using Penrite FS.
