After getting my Pug back from a service last week I noticed that the top portion of the internal rear view mirror was clear while the bottom section was greenish. There was no evidence that the mirror had been physically damaged in any way, so it appears that it had just decided to give up the ghost. Now the hunt is on for a replacement without having to take out a mortgage on the house.... If anyone can help find one I would be grateful for any assistance.
I pulled the mirror out and dismantled it. It seems that the fluid sandwiched between the two plates has somehow leaked out. There is evidence that the fluid also melts the plastic on the printed circuit board adhesive backing plate which attaches it to the back of the glass mirror. For the interest of members I attach photos of the bits and pieces. Note that the green liquid has flowed to different parts and it is not as I first saw it.
