206 petrol pump seal

I have recently has a new Bosch pump installed in the 206 automatic hatch and the seal was found to be leaking. I there anything I should know about these seals which include an 0 ring and a plastic collar which screws on?
 
the tank distorts if you put the cap on in the car .

Remove/drop tank to put the cap/pump on and it works/seals.
 
With the tank out and on the ground the cap starts easily on the thread and can be screwed up by hand , then lock with a tool .

Tank in place you risk cross threading and maybe ruining the cap, rubber "o" ring neck is distorted so it can leak.
be careful you don't crack the plastic fuel connections!!
