206 GTI 180 - Rattle / clunk

Hey there,

I have recently just taken ownership of my pug and have found it clunks on startup / jerky when driving, also has a rattle noise past 3000rpm coming from around the engine.

I have ordered new engine mounts for the car as that's what I think the problem is.
However in saying that it could also be Control arm bushes that are shot.

Will be great to hear the feedback.

Hi mate,

Is the clunk continuous when driving or noticable only in certain situations (over bumps, turning a specific direction etc).

I found new front swaybar end links fixed a clunk in mine before I had more disastrous problems.

I have a full set of upgraded powerflex undercar bushes for sale & also a full set of upgraded Vibratechnics engine & gearbox mounts for sale if you need. I am Sydney based.

It’s continuous when driving and over bumps.

I'll vote for lower control arms.

The clunk on start is more likely to be the top engine mount, or perhaps the lower mount at the back.

Yeah mate, I got the whole set of engine mounts and i agree with you about the control arms.

That's also something I have considered to play a factor into the noise.

They rattle .
Replacement are rubber bushs, so they are silent.
