The Mitsubishi alternator in my Mi16-engined 205 has given up - it was dumping 19V into the battery at idle, and roasted it. From what I've read, this seems to be a common occurrence, so I elected to replace the alternator itself instead of rebuilding.
I recently ordered a new Valeo 90A unit and fitted it - but it won't provide any output at all. Voltage measured at the battery remains at 12.5V when running. The one time it did provide power, a clamp meter I had handy only measured 1A.
I've fitted new terminals and leads, and bypassed the starter altogether to see if it'd help (made up two leads to hook it directly to the battery), to no avail.
The main difference between this Valeo unit (P/N 433161) and the old Mitsubishi one is this one doesn't have an exciter lead on it, for what it's worth.
Have I butchered something horribly along the way, not connected something vital, or got myself a dud? This Valeo unit seems to put out voltage when spun up by hand, so shouldn't be a total dud.
