my original gti seats although looking ok, are passed there used by date. The leather/vinyl and sticthing is quite fragile. i have been shopping around for some aftermarket replacements for a while now as recovering the old ones is expensive process. i have spoke to an engineer who will be doing my gti6 conversion, he recommended i use something that has an ADR tag or im wasting my time. most of the seats i have been looking at around the $400-500 mark each are not ADR approved. i did find some nice items but at @ $900 each its not going to happen. im trying to keep the as recliners so i dont lose the use of back seats and to keep it legal.

last week i came accross some budget seats on sale in the local autobarn catalog and im thinking fot the money might give them a go. has anyone tried these before? from what i have found out they are a replica r34 skyline seat. if there no good for the car i will probley put them in the shed or put them to use somwhere else. i have seen them and sat in them and the feel very comfy. im sure a long drive might change that, but looking for any feed back before i lash out? they are on special until the 28th of april for $149 each.

decided to just buy them and see how it they go. will put the original seats into storage. will post up some pics when there in for those interested.
 
I might do exactly the same thing! Just bought a busted 205 from another member and it is going to be re-born mechanically perfect but less than pristine in body department. Will be a work horse and spend half it's life in long term parking!

if it makes your decision any easier re purchasing ive had one dummy fitted they do fit and look ok, im making custom bases as the bolt patterns between seat and 205 rails differ. im using old 205 rails with the tilt mech removed as these seats already have tilt mech. will then use 25 mm metal strap fixed to rails to make the adaption.
 
seats are just ok, basically they feel like a $150 seat, but look like a $700 seat. has give me a chance to sort the seat rail design and show the engineer thats approving them now i have an adapter it makes way for some better seats in the future when funds permit? will let the pics do the rest of the talking.

Damn.
You gain an appreciation for good design when working with car seats.

I did the $150 seat option too and tried everything to make them better, stretched the springs, cored the too hard foam, and nothing really fixed the feel.
Started to think they were designed by/for a 120kg person because my little 75kg would not compress any of the so called cushions.

Occasionaly I get the desire to re seat the fuego, and whilst I like JDM stuff, it looks JDM and our cars do not look their best with JDM styling.

HAve you ever checked out alfa romeo OE used seats??

Some of them are car porn and quite cheap compared to new high quality seats.
I have no idea what they feel like but I'd imagine they would be good seats.

si seats are the best option for a 205 but just dont look that crash hot, might pay to shop around and have some recovered on the cheap. i like the look of some of those alfa seats. whilst searching for seat options, i considered subaru wrx items and many other sporty ones but they all had there issues. as mentioned once im happy with the mounting of these i might lash out and buy something better. by far the best aftermarket sports seat i sat in was a stratos but had a price tag of $1500 each.

How did you find the seating position? Higher than normal 205 seats? The problem I found when trying to fit race seats into the 205 and using the standard mount points, is that I sit up way to high in the car. Adding a helmet means I no longer fit.

Yep I had the same problem, used a sheet of metal instead of strips as an adapter plate, and though it is very solid, my head hits the rood, and I am only 170cm!

The main plus however, is that the seat has much less play, and hugs you much more, which is great for autocross, but not for the odd drive through the city at peak hour.

Only with your helmet on though Michael, yeah? You'll have to send me photos of how you attached your harness points!

my seats now sit around 30mm lower. as mentioned i removed the original 205 tilt mech.

Harness points are simple enough, replace the manufacturer bolts for the rear seats (behind driver) and also the one at the bottom which holds the lap sash belt for the driver.
The fourth point has to be "created" by drilling a hole behind the hand break, and placing the plate underneath. As long as it is the correct size, it should be sufficient.

CAMS regulations state that manufacturers points are fine, and as long as the plate used is the correct size, then it is fine.

Yes, only with the helmet on, and for general driving I tilt the seat slightly further back (seat has it's own tilt, only kept the rails from the 205 seat) which also helps.
