The british took an age to give up on various attempts. Note that well into the '50s only Singer, Standard, Healey and Land Rover had eschewed any vestige of 'wings'.
Perfected ( IMHO, apart from that 'prow' and grill ) by Peugeot in 1948 but soon outmoded by Detroit, 'streamline' nonetheless did not hamper VW or the aforementioned Volvo.
