I recently fitted a NOS 504 fuel pump to my 203 but as it failed to work I had to fit the original pump with the useful priming lever.
Has anyone else had this problem? I suspect the 504 pump may need a longer pushrod. Is this the case?

have had one of the new sealed pumps fail from day one,
prefer the older hand priming pump too,
you could try a slightly longer pushrod to the nos pump to prove your theory?

Not sure if this helps, but the 404 had two different length pump plungers. Haven't been able to find info on the 203 or 504 lengths. Within the genuine factory 203 parts manul, it dosen't state a length and I don't have a 504 manual.

Should work fine with the 203 rod. Try a brand new one perhaps, may not be sealing after sitting around for years. I've found the plastic ones trouble free.

I have tried two new metal 504 pumps and neither works. The 203 pushrod appears to be only long enough to take up the free travel of the pump lever. I think I need to find a longer pushrod - perhaps from a 504 or 505.

Yes, it would be about 40 years. Time flies, doesn't it.
