Graham,
Thanks for that.
Is it possible to use 203 weights on a 403 crank. Naturally assuming that the whole crank and weights would require balancing?
Thanks, in my collection there two as well. That is why I asked about the interchangeability.
When the 203 was purchased, the previous owner had started the transition to a 403 engine. The 203 engine that came as a spare was an early version (one piece sump) and ceased solid. Many of the tin plates and covers were baldy rusted, so it was junked. The head was removed and it was beyond repair.
Since then, a '53 203 engine (Based on body number resister, courtesy of a PCCV magazine article) has been acquired, but it hasn't been stripped down yet. So, I am unsure of what lies beneath. Assuming its age etc., it is extremely doubtful the crank would be a standard bearing fitment. Guessing at least a .5mm under size as a minimum.
This putting the cart before the horse I know, but just sorting out what is what, while waiting for the 404 to go to the paint shop.
