Hey guys and gals,
I've owned my GTi for a month and out of the blue last Monday (22nd), my GTI developed an intermittent cabin heat issue. All fan blower speeds work fine but when I move the toggles for the digital climate control (and the digital temp changes) there isn't in instant change in air temp coming from the vents.
Car takes still takes the same amount of time to reach operating temp (approx 6 mins and sits around 93* on the gauge) and there's coolant in the overflow bottle (no cap on the radiator to check). I set it to 'max heat' and occasionally, i'll get a period of hot air; but it'll vary from 'plain ventilated air' to 'air somewhere in between with heat'. If i toggle down to say 26 or 24, the vented air will stay much closer to plain vented air temps.
Clues:
1) I thought maybe my thermostat was stuck open, but dismissed it since it takes the same amount of time to warm up.
2) The fact that I occasionally get heats tells me that no sensor has completely failed since i do get occasional heat.
I'm leaning towards of bad connection somewhere. If a control module/temp sensor/motor controlling heating flap has failed, I would imagine no heat.
Has anyone had this problem before or can tell me where the major HVAC connectors/parts are located so I can have a dig around before i surrender to the mechanics?
Much appreciated,
Jim.
