Hey guys and gals,

I've owned my GTi for a month and out of the blue last Monday (22nd), my GTI developed an intermittent cabin heat issue. All fan blower speeds work fine but when I move the toggles for the digital climate control (and the digital temp changes) there isn't in instant change in air temp coming from the vents.

Car takes still takes the same amount of time to reach operating temp (approx 6 mins and sits around 93* on the gauge) and there's coolant in the overflow bottle (no cap on the radiator to check). I set it to 'max heat' and occasionally, i'll get a period of hot air; but it'll vary from 'plain ventilated air' to 'air somewhere in between with heat'. If i toggle down to say 26 or 24, the vented air will stay much closer to plain vented air temps.

Clues:
1) I thought maybe my thermostat was stuck open, but dismissed it since it takes the same amount of time to warm up.

2) The fact that I occasionally get heats tells me that no sensor has completely failed since i do get occasional heat.

I'm leaning towards of bad connection somewhere. If a control module/temp sensor/motor controlling heating flap has failed, I would imagine no heat.

Has anyone had this problem before or can tell me where the major HVAC connectors/parts are located so I can have a dig around before i surrender to the mechanics?

Much appreciated,
Jim.

Surrender to the mechanic lol I’ve had a fair bit of experience with these heater cores do block up on these motors but not normally on 208s first I would have a feel of the pipes behind the glovebox make sure both get hot so you know you have flow

They also do run a controlled thermostat and declutchable water pump so maybe a feel on the hoses and a look down belt side to make sure water pump gets driven when hot

And after doing the suggestions above, if the flap motors are giving trouble, they are accessible from the side of the heater if you get down onto the floor/take out the glove box.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I’ll have a look at the areas mentioned, but agree that I’ll be at the mercy of a mechanic.

I live in the upper north shore of Sydney. I’m thinking of taking it to either Jason in Hornsby Heights or PQ down in Chatswood. I know there’s Revive my Lion who is mobile, but have heard his rates a touch higher. Are there any other Peugeot mechanics this forum recommends?

Hi

did it have a coolant change recently? Try bleeding the system. On the firewall, left side there is a heater pipe with feels a tyre valve cap. You can reach it by feel. With the engine warm (not hot) and running (and heater selected to hot) loosen the cap (have to get to it by feel) and let any air out until you feel/see coolant dribbling.

the post above discusses the Cit DS3 but very similar. Ignore the bleeding valve in the thermostat housing - just focus on the heater pipe valve - bleed valve at “c”in diagram.

Should take a minute to do.

Failing that, try colliers automotive in Granville.

You have named the three North Shore mechanic specialists. Unlike the fixed workshops mentioned, Revive charges a call-out fee, but you don't have to take the car away.

Thanks for the replies.

Kaza1, you were spot on. Previous owner must've got the coolant changed and wasn't bled properly. Needed a coolant top-up too. Heat works fine now.
