B'jour, Does anyone know a cheaper way? Peugeot specialist says he'll have to remove head to clear the carbon out of channel that delivers the air from secondary pump to exhaust. I've cleared the fault/engine light 3 times and it comes back. Pump is working....lots of air. Is there a way to clear the channel with compressed air or shove a wire through? Not financially feasible for mechanic to remove head. Any ideas? Could it be the 2 way valve? How can I check that? Cheers. Michael

Live with the light coming on not worth the risk of other issues like weak rings after a head rebuild or get a matched set of a bsi and engine ecu that doesn’t have secondary air injection

Update...I found a kind mechanic who told me on the phone to try this. Remove pipe and valve from secondary pump at the head. First Check valve is working. The air flow from the pump opens it. If it doesn't open replace it. If its working try to clean out the carbon. With engine running spray decarbonising stuff from auto shop into the intake (with pipe from pump removed) One or two tins and see if clears the channel enough to fix it. If engine light/P0410 comes again try it again. Its worth a try. The fan itself is clean/no oil or carbon on splines and it blows lots of air first 30 secs at cold start. I'll keep youse posted.

AND he said to get a small brush on flexible wire from an aquarium shop and shove that in too.

The ports go straight out from under the exhaust valves so it’s hard / impossible to clean have you checked for flow out the exhaust with the pump running and engine off?

Thanks Dmc. How can I make the fan run without the engine running? Where would I check if air is getting through to exhaust?

A kind mechanic suggested over the phone that I remove the pipe at the head, check that the valve is operating right and if it is spray decarbonizing spray stuff into the channel with the engine running. He said a whole tin or even 2 and let it sit to try and clear out the carbon. Might work.

Sorry...Ive already mentioned that.

Put power down the air pump plug or the white connector near the fuse box. And while doing this you check the tail pipe for flow. O2 sensors can cause this fault. If you have no flow the only two ways to fix the fault is to remove the head or remove the manifold and turn the motor over to open rack exhaust valve and clean out the very thin holes under the exhaust valve. It is very rare that you will fix this with sprays or things like Subaru upper engine cleaner.

Another clue toward diagnosis.... when I clear the P0410 code it doesn't come back until after a few drives. When I took the pipe off the pump to test its flow the engine light came on immediately.

Dear Mr D, I fired up the secondary pump without the engine running and air DID flow out of the exhaust. Apologies for previously asking trivial questions but can you suggest a 'next step'? I'm grateful! The 307 was an impulse buy/cheap. I do regret it but have to fix it before passing it on.

At the moment engine light is not coming back on. Perhaps running the pump with the engine off for a few minutes blew out some cobwebs (and running 98 oct fuel)

Ongoing saga. Replaced 2 way valve. Resealed pump with grey gasket goo because it was leaking air at start up. Plenty of air. P0410 comes back. Might change 02 sensor. Anyone agree?
