Hi guys. Hoping you can help with This one.. recently purchased and just starred to take apart. Can anyone help with any info on the engine. Can't seem to find much on the injection engine in Australia. Also any other tips you have would be great. So far I can see I am missing a rocker cover and radiator but a heap of bits were in the boot.

Thanks 20200530_100845.jpeg20200530_100936.jpeg20200530_100910.jpeg20200530_175852.jpeg

404 Injections are pretty rare in Australia so the injected engine in yours is probably a 504 injected motor. 404 Injections should have a badge on the rear just beside the number plate. To me, and there are many people out there who know a lot more than me about Peugeots, it doesn't look like an injected 404 motor. On the other hand, it looks a bit different to a 504 injected motor so I'll leave it up to more knowledgeable others to advise.

I was going by these pics. Were there variations of 404 injected motors?

Super rare in Australia anyway and I'd suggest the car is a private import.

It's a manual : the clutch slave cylinder is visible under the bonnet.:wink2:

Untitled.pngcouldn't make out a pedal but no display on the column ...

Did you get a chance to check for an "Injection" badge near the back number plate? Could it be that Peugeot started fitting what was to be the 504 1800 injected motors to late 404s?

Car is Australian production 1968. Would have had drum brakes on the front originally. Every chance that the conversion hasn't been done correctly, you need the COMPLETE setup from a disc braked car. Clutch pedal is there, stuck to the floor. You probably find that the pedals have seized, if so then you will have to remove the complete pedal assembly from the car and knock the shaft out, lubricate, then reassemble. You will never succeed by trying to use WD40.

Definitely not, Injection model was discontinued as the 504 was the new performance model, the 404 was an also ran from then on and even the carby model was detuned, although still went very well.

"Title on photo is 68 404 injection but photo is of 504."

if you mean title of thread, yes; screenshot is detail from a jpg filed as (pg.10 of 12) 1969 504 brochure, french, downloaded in Jan '19 from http://www.lov2xlr8.no/brochures/1960/69peu/69peu.html
posted as clarification / illustration of previous post.

What sort of work are you planning on the car, enough to get it registered or a full resto, or other?
