Any recommendations for someone in Sydney ( or further afield ) interested and able to repair these things ?

Why not just get some other brand, just as appropriate for your car ? What kind of car is it ?
As an example, early Peugeot 505s had Motorola alternators which worked well for ten years or so, but then they stuffed up. Some kind of very viscous, gunky stuff would leak out (from the regulator section, I think) and this would be difficult to clean off. Almost everyone I knew would replace them with another brand.

Any auto electrician should be able to do this, parts to do this don't look that special

The slip rings will most likely need machining, and if the grooves are to deep a new set of slip rings will be needed as well.

Bearings are common off the shelf and the brushes are also easy to source, if you can't get the complete brush holder assembly just buy a set of brushes and swap the brushes.

There will be no internal regulator to worry about.
