Has anyone had experience with 16" wheels on 205 GTi series 1's? I believe 195/45/16"s fit, however this size is hard to get and 205/45/16"s with 16x7" wheels are more common. Are there any guard and arc mods that are needed?

My Advice is not to buy 16" wheels there just isn't enough tyre choice. Either go for 15" or 17".

I have just fitted a set of 15x6.5 set of aftermarket rims to my series 1 205 GTi. The tyres are a 195/55 series Falken Azenis, and with the car lowered, they only just fit in. I had to cut back the inner edge of the rear arch trim as it was scrubbing the tyre to about 1 to 1.5 cm in. The small boxed section towards the rear on the inner guard is also just hitting the tyre on suspension compression. Towards the front of the rear guard, I am also just touching the metal on compression of the suspension.

I would reccoment a 50 series tyre if you are lowering on 15" rims, although jr has a set of 16's on his series 1 205 GTi, and these just fit with a 40 series tyre in a 205 width, and I mean just.

17's would be out unless you modify the guards and I would suspect this is more trouble than what is worth.

Hope this helps
