Which DCT box for 1.2 Captur?

is likely to be the DC4-016, it'll be written on a plate on the gbox sump.

sorry, a bit late, Haakon mentioned this to me off the forum.

"Not sure on that one.. I reckon a clue might be in the handbook on the trans fluid recommended for it. Dry clutch units are just a manual gearbox oil, where the wet clutch ones need a more specialised fluid."
Sounds like the same conclusion others have come to.

In my daughters rs200 I used nulon dsg/dct full synthetic transmission oil,it comes in a one litre squeeze bag, easy to fill gearbox.remembering that these gearboxes were in ford focuses and Hyundai i30?and afew other vehicles,I purchased a second hand transmission from a 2012 megane diesel from the wreckers for $200 to do an autopsy on before dismantling daughters, basically same gear ox but larger diameter clutch on diesel, got the oil from supercheap. Jim

I know your not going to like doing this but you could ring Buckby's service department and ask them for a price for the oil for your transmission now that thanks to Jim you have identified what transmission you have.

Send Jim a PM and ask him what oil he run in his daughter's Clio RS200.
Thanks to Jim and your good self....I guess I will have to contact Buckby's....but we haven't exactly had a smooth relationship in the service dept.....the spark plugs was one issue along with them buggering up a couple of services, although to be fair they looked after our 2003 Peugeot 307 very well and sorted out a couple of problems that weer beyond me....I'll swallow my pride and contact them.

Dacia...in that case either Nulon or Penrite would be suitable then?....being a dry cluch unit.

Been looking at the Motul site and their oil can be used for dry or wet clutch systems.....now we have ascertained that the captur box pre 2019 is indeed a dry clutch set up, I would consider that any high quality 75-90 gearbox oil plus an anti wear additive should be suitable as there is no wet clutch to upset.
Because the Ser 111 Captur post 2019 is enlarged to a 1.3 ltr engine and has changed to a wet clutch system apparently.

Yes nulon was fine for my daughters car and I would say a Penrite oil compatible with those transmissions also.being a dry clutch unit the transmission is basically a 6speed manual gear box/final drive unit, they run two mainshafts and one counterpart, each mainshaft has a pinion gear on drive end with the six gears shared between them.another unusual operation of that gearbox is that the clutch has pressure plates that operate opposite to conventional pressure plates in that at rest the clutch plate is free to spin, when engaging gear the electric motor operates clutch fork and engages and holds clutch.effectively while driving in gear clutch fork and thrust bearing are engaged,so if you get a bearing noise while driving it may be clutch thrust bearing.because of curre t draw required to hold clutch e gaged you will find large fuse of 60amp or so in fuse box.battery/alternator condition first go to if any transmission shifting/drive faults.maybe a bit too much waffle from me but maybe a help for any future problems. Hahahaaa...never too much 'waffle' my friend especially when it makes sense 👀👍
I have educated my wife into not shifting to neutral at a stop like in a torque converter auto as it does exactly opposite ...these release clutch engagement when your foot is on the brake pedal.
It gives more mechanical sympathy when you know how the system works.
My other car is a 1998 Jaguar XJ8 4.0 Ltr V8 which has covered 230,000klm and runs like a swiss watch, it's fitted with ZF 5HP24 5 speed auto and I use Castrol Transmax-Z in that.

I forgot to mention...I keep the Captur on a fully automatic battery charger and use the top of the line Varta battery designed for these cars....like all modern cars with complex electronic systems battery state is everything!
Another thing I was not happy with was the earth locations so, I took the opportunity to remove the paint and clean earth points and lube with dielectric grease when we changed the battery last year.

Looks like it changed to a 7 spd EDC-7 using Castrol BOT 341, so I would also guess it's wet clutch

In general, I have the following snippets
6DCT450 Transmission Fluid Type: BOT 341
Ford part number: XT-11-QDC
Volvo part number: 1161838
Mitsubishi part number: MZ320065
Full fill - 7.5 liters (includes cooler)
Drain fill - 5.5 liters

6DCT250
PSA 9734.S2
Renault DC4: BOT450
1.7 litres

The Motul spec attached shows Renault EDC, DC4, BOT 450 which I interpret as suitable for your Captur II (DC4) AND the Captur III (EDC-7)

Hopefully this spark has brightened your day :)

Yes the Ser.111 is a different animal driveline wise. 👀👍

I think it may be the DW5 7DCT300 capable of 300 N.m

I found a Note Technique 6012A version in French circa 2015 with three Renault part numbers for these DCT gearboxes. If someone has the latest version in English, it may have what the Renault BOT numbers are for the DW5/6 which will help others be sure a replacement oil is suitable for their type of DCT.

Huile de boite DC4 77 11 428 122 BOT450
Huile de boite DW6 77 11 579 456
Huile de boite DW5 77 11 579 594

Which I figure is these boxes
DC4, DPS6, 6DCT250
DW6, MPS6, 6DCT450
DW5, 7DCT300

MPS6i, 6DCT451 = 2.0l C4 Picasso, Pug 308, 508
? 6DCT470 = pug 4007

Good one Alex....you have them in the correct order 👌
I have at last ascertained that my 2017 captur 1.2 is fitted with the 6DCT250 trans., and the BOT450 designation is a suitable oil....I think I will settle for the MOTUL version.

EDC oil was discussed in this thread

Renault spec for the Megane III DC4 is BOT 450
Renault 1 litre bottle part number is 77 11 428 122

Another oil is Motul Multi DCTF
See the following link for list of OEM compatibility which include Renault BOT 450 EDC and PSA 9734.S2
Note the 'Suitable for use in a wide range of vehicles fitted with DCT gearboxes featuring Double-Dry Clutch Transmission and Double-Wet Clutch Transmission design.'

Well fellas....I have decided to go with the Motul DCT/F full syn. oil to do a gearbox oil change, it seems to meet all the necessary criteria.
I'll let you know how it turns out but it won't be for a while yet.
