    Default Interesting !

    Hi
    Well spotted and identified

Some random thoughts. The Escorts were held together by external bars from the front towers to the roll cages.

The Porsche was obviously driven by a young hopefull Scottish doctor ?? Look at the advertising on the rear

The Cits are so much bigger than the rest

The cars all look like real road cars slightly modified, rather than racing cars built up with a slightly identifiable body tacked on, as is the current mode.

    Hi Jaahn

That was the way the cars were built in the 60's and early 70's.

They were modified road cars unlike the special WRC cars that we see today

Interesting how the D's were sponsored by Yacco as Citroen's relationship with Total began in 1968.

Anyone know what year this photo's from?

1970 - if you wait, the above image scrolls through underneath the two video frames.

FWIW the Escort's in the 1970 London to Mexico city World Cup Rally had 'buzzard' bars fitted ie the external roll cage. To duck around the rules Ford used the BS story that buzzards in the Andes Mountains could cause a serious accident by crashing into the windscreen. Soooo these bars where fitted so protective mesh screen 'could' be fitted.
Evan Green actually competed in a Triumph and asked one of the works drivers, can't remember which dour Scandavian driver.
    "What?"
"So the car doesn't go snap here." Points to base of windscreen and makes a noise not unlike a snapping carrot.

From my vague recollection of Evan Green's experiences with the Triumph brand 'works' rally cars, its a miracle they finished at all.

Actually Evan must of had a 'non'-hidden passion for Austin/BMC/Leyland etc British Blah, either that or the old stalwart of the "Photos of the office Christmas party". Evan did many events and record drives in Pommy vehicles in fully supported factory cars. Must of been one hellva of salesman to get so much support. When Leyland folded he aimed the 'gravy ladle' at Nissan, and it worked! Also he was a dab hand behind the wheel!
