Default 405 Mi16 going up for sale - Canberra

    Hi all,
please excuse if this is a pre-emptive strike but I am seriously considering selling my Peugeot 405 Mi16 (It's going to be hard). I am in the position now that work is offering me a lease deal and unfortunately the Pug is just too old to qualify (1993).
I am considering going to a 306 S16 an am about to tour around the boards here for a look at what people say about them.
    The details:
    1993 405 Mi16
Series II or maybe III (I'll check)
    Runs like a dream.
all options - no sunroof or leather though
full service history - receipts dating back to day dot and always serviced by Pug specialist (Alpine Motors - Canberra)
New front tyres - Toyo high performance tyres front and rear.
$2000 just spent on some repairs (receipts avail) Just fixed - new heater/blower motor, new front power window motor and switch. Clutch Kit just done (this week). Major service just done (everything done, inc $70! pollen filters)
everything running perfectly - everything fixed whenever it needed it and I've the receipts to prove how much has been spent on it
    Dark Metallic Green
    Alloys,
    Climate control Air Con,
    ABS brakes,
    Power Windows, mirrors,
High K's but most of them by Highway K's by 1st owner (i'm the second) 275,000
withstand any test and happy for any inspection
    Rego (ACT) until March 2004
    probably look for about $7500.

I'll post pics if i go ahead.
    Thanks
    Damian

Looks good. Could you just do me one favour........ask $15k for it. Just some kind of vain hope of these things retaining a value at all. Seriously $40k depreciation in 10 years is pathetic. Makes me wonder why I bother keeping mine so nice.

Default how much the 405 should be worth

i agree totally. On the one hand I love the fact they depreciate because I can buy a 50,000 car for less than 10 grand and have all the luxury, options and advantages of a 50K car for something I can afford.
On the other hand I believe they (peugeots) are worth so much more than you seem to be able to get for them. Realistically I think my car is worth $10,000, even with the KM's. I decided I wanted to have the car perfect for me to drive and enjoy and so when I bought it (with a couple of known faults), I spent the dollars and fixed everything. I have spent $2000 in the last 12 months (not including servicing) just getting things the way I like them. I fixed the heater blower because it wasn't blowing at full strength, fixed the drivers window motor because it was noisy, basically all the little niggly things so it would be a perfect car to drive and enjoy. And seriously I intended to keep it for ever, pass it down to my wife and then the kid brother after I had driven the hell out of it for the next decade.
But this opportunity to get one with nearly 50% tax benefits is tom good to pass up and honestly living in Canberra I think I'd be hard pressed to get $10,000.
It hurts me to sell it on a number of levels not the least of which is the $7,500 price tag.

You don't need to sell it. Honestly, if I was in a position to get a new car with those benefits, I'd consider getting it, but keeping the Mi16 as well.

For the (relatively) small price you'd get for it, it might be worth keeping it for the odd drive, or to give it to your wife now?

Of course, there would be other factors, like if you have the space, etc. But, it does bear thinking about.

If I were you guys, I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for used car prices to rise.
I've just heard that once again new car sales have hit new record highs so chances of any car regardless of brand pulling a decent resale price is fast disappearing.
I wouldn't get too excited about Pug or Cit prices being low, every brand is in the same boat so you gain nothing by changing brands. I suppose if you look after your car, in the long term it must end up becoming some kind of collectable.

I don't really consider mine to have a value, so to speak. Because by the time I have a reason to sell it, it will be worth a few grand. Unfortunately this causes people to skimp on servicing ect as they know they will never be seeing any of there money back. The cost of labour and parts are far out of sync with the 2nd hand values. I don't really care though. As I've said before, if I sold mine, what else would I replace it with for the money? I consider it a perfect daily driver, so I'll just keep driving it and have a 2nd/3rd car as a weekend toy. If I had more space, I'd have 10 cars by now. So many desirable cars at such cheap prices.

Sorry, your selling a car.........good luck with the sale. Mi16's are the current bargain of the century if ask me.

Where abouts in Canberra are you?? Thatís a nice looking car you have there. I might have to persuade my wife to go for a manual instead.

Default 405 update and service info

    hi all,

Well I think that's it (read below for the new cost - i think it needs to pay me back some): The 405 is for sale.

I live in Belconnen, work in Fyshwick, can travel: anywhere in ACT or to Sydney . Brother lives in Tasmania so delivery there might be an excuse to visit , would also consider a last drive to Melbourne for a buyer.

i can post/email more pics if you like if anyone needs. Too dark now (flash pics are terrible) but i will take some more in the morning.

    Last service details:
    Major Service - 276,922 KM
All the major service stuff, tune, plugs, oil, etc
    Replaced RHF window regulator
    Replaced Cabin Fan Motor
    Replaced Coil pack
    Spent $1345 on it.
New Tyres fitted about 50km's ago.
Also AirCon regassed last summer so it blows nice and cold.

Also yesterday (the damn car heard me talking about selling i swear) a noise developed in the clutch so I have booked it in at Alpine Motors to check, I actually think it's going to be the thrust bearing so I am about to be bitten for a new clutch i think, which i'll do before selling.

I have all the original manuals and books as came with the car and all service receipts back forever (it's a huge stack of papers and shows it's life story on paper). Car lived in Hall ( Canberra border) before i got it and the lady used to drive in on the highway each day so it has racked up highway K's.

    Damian

p.s. i pitched the idea of keeping it to the Wife and she said "what about our trip to Europe next year?" so i guess that kills that.
Although her Dad was asking some probing questions about it and as the in-laws were who got me into Pugs anyway (they have a 405 and a 405 SRI), so it may stay in the family after all....

Did that spoiler come stock with your car? It looks a lot like the 405 T16 spoiler.

God I want one that looks like that. **** it, I'm going to buy one.

Car is stock standard as from the factory, so i guess so. Although standard is much better than most cars come from the factory

the series 1 was slightly different but only where the ends come down towards the rear guards
if you check my site out you will see a link to some pics of the Mi-16 series 1 that i used to own and you will see the rear spoiler on that car is basically the same animal
