Ever noticed the latest trend amongst oil companies is to make the necks
on their oil bottles as wide as is possible whilst car manufacturers seem to
be heading in the direction of making the filler caps smaller. A Citroen BX
is a good case in point, whilst a CX has the filler hole on an angle which makes
pouring without missing just that little bit harder. On the CX of course the
exhaust manifold is directly under the front of the rocker cover, hence it is
usually an easy job to spot a CX that has just had the oil changed; it's the
one sitting in the cloud of oil smoke at the trafic lights.
Solution - Take an old oil container with a normal sized cap; go to the local
spare parts shop and pick up a spout to fit. Cut the base out of the container
and wash out. Screw on the spout and you have a funnel which will fit into any
engine filler cap hole and will work regardless of the size of the spout on
the can of new oil, or can be used as a petrol funnel. Works so well on petrol
it's a wonder they don't use them on F-1's (where's the rolleyes?)
Word of advise though, be sure it's nice and clean before you use it each time
and it will last for years; mine has.
