    Default xu10 into 205 question

when looking for a donor car for the aboved mentioned conversion would it matter if it has the ignition key with it?
i have come accross a few good cars at the wreckers with low km motors but no keys available?
i remeber reading somewhere that the ecu can lock or need reprogramming to get the engine to run? one of the cars in question was a 2001 306 but it has no key?
im a little out of my depth when it comes to ecu s and ignition switches on late model stuff.

having said that can and does the factory ecu have to be used, or is it better/easier to fit an after market jobbie? would be happy to use factory ecu if its easy enough.

Using the factory ECU is the cheapest alternative....if you are going to take the car further in modifications then it would be more viable to go the aftermarket ECU.

I dont really think you would have a problem. Remembering the key is only a mechanical device to close the electrical circuit to let current flow. I have totally removed my key start device in favor of electronic swipe card (RFID) and every thing is fine as it's the re-wiring that controls the ECU.

I'm sure at a bare minimum .........aahh your talking key as in Remote unlocking device linked to a body control module with a anti theft device ....sorry.

your right, with out serious fiddling, you will need the key OR ECU upgrade - Go Megasquirt!
.....or heaven forbid - Peugeot dealer!
....now watch a Peugeot turn into a corner!

If you're close to Peter T, buy a Haltech Sprint 500 through him, get the benefit of his experience with tuning and make everything ok. The base mobel Haltech won't run your knock sensor though - no problems, just run 98 RON, or better yet, bigger injectors and E85.

Yes I'm pretty sure that the original ECU won't work with out the key, or at least the black bit on the end of it and the reciever around the barrel. It will also need the BSI from the car.

    I'd go aftermarket!

My 406 doesn't have an immobiliser...

And no, you aren't using it as a donor car

You will need the key or the ecu unlocking.

As I said, there is no immobiliser in my car - therefore no chip in my key.

ok so i have found a 2001 306 thats been robbed of some parts but has a good engine
and box still in it that runs. apparently the key is missing? the owner says for around $150 he can get a key reprogrammed from peuget and i have been assured the car runs and drives perfect. very low kms.

im just wondering if i can use the 306 ignition barrel and possibly the door locks in a 205? maybe even the keyless entry setup, so i dont have to run two sets of keys. then i could transfer most of the 306 loom into the 205. the immobiliser side of it worries me a bit.

otherwise im guessing i would need the 306 key to unlock or immobilise the ecu and then somehow use the 205 ignition to start the car? or unlock the ecu all together to run with my 205 hardware. does this sound right? is it easy to unlock the ecu? i do like the idea of using all the 306 stuff if possible

I think if you just swap the barrels over it would run fine. Just get the loom and piping also if you can. The ECU on those motors does not lock I believe, so removal souldnt be a drama. Get all you can from it if you dont buy the whole car. Front brakes are a great upgrade.
