    1.6 trani in a 1.9...?

    Anyone,

The trani from my 205gti (1.9) needs rebuilding....& I was thinking of maybe putting in one from a 1.6gti...or a 1.6 Si.

Would either of these fit ?
Would acceleration imrpove due to the 1.6 ratio's?
Is the 1.6 Si manual transmision strong enough to handle the 1.9 power difference ?

Or should I just rebuild the 1.9...???

Same gearbox, different diff. The 1.6 has 4.06:1, 1.9 has 3.93:1.

cosmo, yeh it would go into your car and yes you would get a fair bit more acceleration however if you do alot of hi-way travel you may get sick of the drone/lower top speed that comes with this combo. cheers john r

Sorry I was wrong, if you're talking about the SI box. I assumed you were talking about the 1.6 GTi.

    Oh OK....gotcha,

SI....no good...too weak ?....If I were to go for a 1.6 gti...I'd have to import it from the UK or NZ...

Actually the gearbox out of export spec GTi's is the 1.6 box, despite the engine being 1.9
Correct me if I'm wrong please someone.

I think u may be right Izza, cos the 1.9 '89 model had the detuned engine in Oz.....less power than the Euro 1.6's... moon

I put the 309 gti box into the 405. I imagine the same would fit in the 205. Just make sure though, get the BE3 box.
    Good luck
