So you got it you lucky bastard.
Is it going to be cracking by saturday :-)

Do you plan on doing any pre-install mods on it?

    Well well,

If i could have spoken to the engine, it would have said "woof". Turned out to be a dog.

Phase 2 of the mods to begin shortly.

    Whaaa???
Did it turn out to be no good?

    Get a GTI6 or S16 engine.

Lets just say that not all the bits were there in the "complete set up" and extra money needs to be spent getting it up to scratch just for install alone.

There is actually nothing wrong with my 8V lump, but a "complete setup" was too good to not look at, its just not complete.

It will give me the funds to get a set of rims (nick, e-mail me please), refresh front suspension components and brakes, get a few niggly things sorted, and get an engine next time.

Still looking at the parts prices, but the budget looks to have "blown out" for this now.

Ok, need to clear something up, the engine is not so much a dog, bad choice of words on my behalf, but turned out to be a little incomplete, which has now been rectified. I guess i was annoyed at the fact it was gonna cost more to fit than I budgeted for and i lashed out at the condition, geez, i havent even seen it in the flesh.

My bad. I apologise to Ben for the misrepresentation and the use of that word to describe what could be a good engine.

    Tut, tut,tut,

Didn't take notice of my posting on the $1 air fares???? Or were you one of the 30,000 + that missed out?
If you'd have been quick off the mark you could have gone & had a gander at it for nearly free.

If it ain't broke, use a 12" shifter.....that usually does the trick!!

    Chipper,

There was a BX 16V from the Sunshine Coast went thru a Fowles Auction a couple of weeks ago. I sent my #1 Son down to bid on it but his dopey girlfriend took him walkabout for an hour so he managed to miss it when it went through (it's OK, I've already disinherited him) but it apparently wasn't all that bad. 170,000 klms & new cam belt 800 klms before it got bent. By my reckoning it was a redeemable car but it sold for $1300 and apparently no one at the auction who was in the know Citroenwise recognised the buyer. They seem to think it may have gone south.
With your contacts in the insurance business, you might be able to trace it.
Could be worth the trouble to trace it if the guy was not in the trade & thought he was going to buy a cheap BX. I have the resources to restore it but he may not have.

    Alan,

Thanks mate, I am letting the conversion go for the moment and concentrating on refreshing bits and pieces on the car.

    Cheers for the info

Alan S... disinheriting the son is one thing, but what are you going to do to the girlfriend?

What an opportunity missed.... then again, he might have been prepared to keep on bidding with opposition...
