Xsara intake & exhaust

I've just picked up a Xsara VTR 1.6 and was after a bit of advice.

I'm very happy with how it handles, but I'm looking to let it breath a bit better. So if anyone has some advice on what my options are I be happy to hear from you.

I'm based in Sydney and was wanting to know if there is anyone of Ray Gulson's calibre in Sydney?

Good one Brett, Yeh, I love mine too, I bought a brand new white VTR off Ray Gulson back in Oct,Glad to hear that his reputation is well known. Yeh I have heard all these storys about unrelible dealers, service etc, But I have had no problems whatsoever with Gulsons. I too am impressed with the ride and handling. Every time I take it for a spin I am more impressed than before.
Anyway best of luck with your VTR, we have quite a few owners here on AF, myself, Bruce H, Julian (xsara), Troy O, and a few others I can't remember, but there don't seem to be any VTS owners yet?!?

Cheers cheers!
Dan.

awesome another Xsara owner.

I have done a little bit of work to mine in the areas which you are talking about!

The current Xsara airbox draws from inside the passenger wheel arch and gets a pretty ordinary flow of air through it... so that was the first thing i changed! i bought a carbon fibre BMC cold air induction system www.bmcairfilters.com which draws air directly form the front bumper of my car now! This gives a "Ram Air" type effect and has made the throttle respone a snappeir and it is a noticable difference from the stock air box! this intake cost about $550 and is definatly a cheap way fo doing things! but recently cars have been gettign defective notices form having pod style filters, and since this is a enclosed induction system it is legal... stupid rule i know, but its one less thing to worry about!

regarding the exhaust, i have a split system.... from near the cat back! it is a 2" system straight through pipe(no resonators) that then branches out into twin 1 3/4" piping! and just before the tips( on each side) i have a straight through style muffler! The Xsara has quite a nice raspy note, some people have said it sounds like the European Touring car type of noise ( which i am happy with wink )

This system would be better with custom extractors... but after seeing the car on the hoist and doing alot of umming and arghing it just wans't worth it to me! there is alot of work that needs to be done to make a successful set of headers for this car! The Vertical Cat and semi-circular bend just after the cat bumps the price up to about $800 and 2 days without your car! the current system, i got for $300 ( very cheap)

hope that helps! be good to see some pics of your car! i will try find a picture of the Intake i have!

Julian

here's the induction....

the piping on there is Group A touring car Brake ducting! it is heat resistant, bends and very tough! cost me about $100 for 2m

Thanks to all who have replied.

This is all a bit new to me having previously on worked on 4WD TDi motors!

Julian, thanks for the pic and the ideas, it'll give me a starting point.

Cheers

Hi Brett, congratulations on your purchase. Yeah, the Xsara is a good handler, but a bit of extra go doesn't hurt.

Hey Julian, have you got any audio clips of the exhaust note from your car?

Troy.

hey julian, how are ya? please see the cit forum as i have a couple questions and you are probably most qualified to answer them (no disrespect to other fellow vtr owners)

brett, good to hear you got a vtr as well. you bought yours the same time i got mine (oct2002) and ever since i got her i've been wondering the same thing... but mostly info on suspension upgrades. anyway, here in chile (i live overseas... and i'm not aussie either, but this seems to be the only forum with any xsara info) and there are no shops here that sell performance parts for this car other than eibach pro kits (35mm). . . oh well, i hope to find some stuff soon...

julian, any way for me to send u $$$ and you get an intake for me and ship it over thru the post?

Icon10 Xsara performance

HI fella's, I'm new to the Forum and the Citroen family, I used to own VW's before this. I have a 2.0L 99 model Xsara and was wanting to make some performance enhancements (I am W.A based). Is there anyone I can trust on this end of the world with performance work for Citroen, or can I just take the car to a performance exhaust place for the exhaust and any reputable (like Tim Slako's) for the induction kit?
any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

I have had my baby for a year now and even though she's no VTR/VTS I still love the way she drives.

Thanks
