Haltec data logged 80 kph to 120 kph. The Ultimate Virtual Drag !!!!

Have a look at these. My passenger was at bit slow pushing the button, but
80km/k = 4400, 120km/h = 6250. You can see from the throttle position the start
and the finish. Also interesting is the duty cycle. It's peaking, 80% should be
max. I need bigger injectors if I want anymore power. There's been posts before
    about duty cycles.

Hehe that is just plain cool!

On the weekend I was watching the real time figures from the Haltech in a mates WRX STi. Absolutely fascinating to watch. For instance the intake temperatures rose from 19 degrees to about 51 degrees in 15 seconds. Incredible.

Just out of interests sake - I did a 40-120 kmh time on the STi. Came up in 5.81 seconds according to my AC22. Phwoar.

I removed all the other sensors out of the display, but I can put them back if you're interested.

James, it isn't really all that "Wicked". I'd call it basically stock with excellent mixtures. Sure the exhaust and ignition mods help, but it just shows how good the std. setup is. All the bits work well together. When you change something, eg induction length by adding a different filter, you upset that balance.

The really big thing that others notice when they drive my car, is the HUGE amount low end torque(1200-3000) compared to other Series 1, or even Series 2 Mi16. That's all from better mixtures.

Here is a challenge for you Peter. Post a little movie for us of your car. I want to see wheel spinning smoking tyres and hear the engine on the rev limiter !!!!
Maybe we could have another competition of the best sounding pug ? tongue

I don't have a video camera. Mi16's are useless off the mark anyway. They have a short diff., but first is very long. That's why I suggested a rolling start!

PeterT - I like your philosophy on engine modification. I've really had to look long and hard at my motor but in all honesty I don't think there's much you can do to improve them a whole lot (for street use) bar better mixtures & ignition.

You should see the flat torque curve my GTi 6 produced from a dyno session I went to the other day - a total of 10Nm variance @ the wheels from 60 - 180kph in 4th gear... it's barely a curve!

Put on a pod filter or different cam and you upset what Peugeot obviously put a lot of time into.

There are 3 minor dips higher up in the rev range which I think could be ironed out with ECU reprogramming.

    cheers

I had a you-beaut sony digital camera from work which takes movies and audio, the audio tracks originally had vision but was of my seat swab to I just ripped the audio out.

My engine has a really nice metalic note at 4000rpm which isn't picked up on the camera frown

With my other cars I recorded the exhaust note with my Sony DATman and it's mic gaffa-taped to the bumper near the exhaust.

It's a surreal experience listening to your exhaust amplified through headphones whilst driving!

I'll do some in-cabin sounds and exhaust sounds soon - the new muffler sounds pretty fruity.

BTW it looks like you've got a fair bit of pick up around 120kph - were you shifting back to 3rd?

    cheers,
    Adrian

Yeah, I held about 110 then dropped back to 4th then 3rd lifting revs each time to maintain speed, then dumped it until 7000rpm hard cutout which is 133km/h. I didn't accelerate in 4th though when I changed up.

Happened to be browsing around and came across this site - nice forum

Anyway, having followed this thread I thought I'd give it a crack in my BX 16v, but it's a bit diffcult as 80 kph works out as somewhere around 55 mph, and 120 kmh is about 80 mph which my 16v will not reach in 3rd without almost bouncing off the limiter.

I knew that the gearing on the 16v was pretty short, but what sort of revs are you lads getting when hitting the 120k mark ? I know from Phasis' video that he's nowhere near my 7000-odd rpm, and that a 405 Mi16 will bring up the 120 without getting much over 6000 rpm.

Anyone know if the 16v makes up for this by having a longer 4th gear ? I know that if you push things to extremes it is feasible to redline the 16v in 5th at about 140 mph (aroung 205 kph), surely gearing this short doesn't make a lot of sense ?

Finally, I didn't manage to record a time, but if anyone is interested I can take someone along with me next time to work the stopwatch.

That's interesting. I thought a BX16V was mechanically identical to an Mi16, but obviously the gearing is shorter somewhere. There's something wrong with your maths too. 140mph = 224km/h, which to be me suggests the 5th/final drive is the same, but the other gears differ.

Just get from 80-120 the quickest way you can!

    My gearing sees the following
    1st - 60km/h
    2nd - 90km/h
    3rd - 133km/h
    4th - 180km/h
    5th - 233km/h

however these are all theoretical of course, I have never been over 120km/h

Not long after the Sydney Harbour Tunnel, there was a 200 Club. ie do 200km/h in the tunnel. Someone did a video from the back seat, and somehow the video found its way to the press. The driver was eventually charged for speeding. A bit hard to deny the video evidence. Everyone was a bit embarresed, and thus there are now cameras in the tunnel.

Of course, Phasis was in NT when he filmed his car.
