Heeeelp me pleeeeze!!! Y^O^Y

    G'day boys.

I am in Perth with an 87 1.9 205 Gti, (no Idea what series it is) and i want to get some advice. the doctor gave my car 2 weeks to 2 years, ( cry Oh cruel world!!) and I dont know what to do. (I dont trust mechanics, they have done evil things to my car before, and charged me for my stupidity!! eek! ) There is Oil in the water, but no water in the oil and apparrently it has a cracked block. It is running fine, maybe it feels a little loose and old?! Either way, I took it for a burn with a friends Gti (standard) and it skinned me alive. I cant go around in this Slug, especially since I just got it painted!! I have a low budget but if I get another 8v thrown in it, it will cost a bit over 2 grand all said and done. Now I, like many of you Pug peeps would really really like to get a little 16 valver thrown in the front! evil Now I have been doing some research, on all these UK sites where it is a boy racer, and it all seems standard and cheap. But here it is somewhat of an exotic car? Anywa, I want to look into it, but everyone just suggests internet sites. This is all well and good, but most of them are UK sites, and i am COMPLETELY mechanically illiterate!! I wanna do it but need to know about costs, problems, mechanics and all that sort of stuff. Please please someone in the know help me out. Please please pleasepleeeeeze!! cry

Just on another topic, I was looking at the prices of Pugs in Jp. The Old car tax helps keep the price of old cars down!! You wouldnt see a 205 for over $1k Au. or a 405 Mi16 for that matter. I even saw a 205t16 for around $1.5k Au!

PurplePug - Why don't you try and pop along to the Perth GTI cruise - see http://www.206gti.net/wa/

A few other 205 owners and I are going to try and pop along and you can have a look at my Mi16 conversion to get some ideas and also get feedback from other Pug owners.

    Cheers

liner seals hey?! Is that bad? I hope not, I am tired of all these little problems. I wish I had mechanical knowledge, even jus a little!! cry Anyway, if my car is moving I will be out there on Sunday, provided I dont get lost (which is extremely likely) i am looking forward to seeing other pug owners for diagnosis on my little beaner! snail

"Mechanical knowledge" is merely application of your intelligence...

In other words, if you want to do it, with patience and thought you can!

sounds good in theory! but I am stoopid x 10 and teh only tool i own is a screwdriver. T_T i have no savvy at all. I have fixed the clutch a few times but seriously there is no room to move your hand in that cars engine bay. Anyway, trust me, anything I try and do to that car will only lead to tears. I almost want to sell it because I am scared of what I will do to it if I try and get too professor on it! Anyone interested in an 87 pug?

It could be as easy as a head gasket. You said oil in the water, so would not be liner seals, but may be where the high pressure oil feeds up to the head for the valve gear, the gasket has broken through to the water passage. As the oil is at higher pressure than the water, water would not get in the oil, but oil would get in the water.

My apologies, I read that as water in the oil...

Indeed, it won't be liner seals. Probably, as Alan says, a fracture in the gasket where the oil pressure feeds to the head.

This need not be a big deal at all... but I also think you should try to apply your intellect to working on the car yourself. It will pay off big time in the future.
