    Other carbs on a 404

    Well, why not?

I'm thinking SU still, or maybe CD Stromberg.

I used to have one off a Hillman Hunter, that would have been fair enough, but I have to put my thinking cap on and work out what there was with similar performance, four cylinders and a single SU.

I reckon this way I won't have to play any games, it will just work right off...

Unfortunately, all the BMC stuff of that size (4cc different, wasn't it?) had either twin SUs or some downdraught rubbish.

    Ideas, anyone?

What? Did I really post 'BA7/5'? Of course, I meant the BA10/5, which is the only box you'd use behind a V6...

But the truth is I was only kidding. No way would I consider a V6 in such a nice example of this model. A 2-litre tops... maybe a BA7/5 if I can work out the linkages from the column change. And probably a bit of Kugelfischer equipment in there...

I wouln't stick a V6 in my 404 either, though I wouldn't mind a BA7/5 running off the column, and I might try and get one of those big bore 505 manifolds. Everything has got to be reversible.
I'd love to do another 404 with a 505 turbo donk, 5 speed box, and either a 505 GTI wagon diff or the IRS fitted. I'd stick on 604 front brakes, and the Dunlop alloys (I just love those alloys).
