hi, i was needing a little advice please. im about to do some repairs to my pug 205 87 gti. amongst other things im renewing the water pump & timing belt.
has anyone renewed theirs and could you suggest anything niggly please? in general all is ok but to be more specific i was wanting to know about the belt tension/er. also perhaps about rusted bolts, easier way of removal etc. thanks

Replace cam belt, tensioner and water pump at the same time.
if you are a novice handyman id get a mechanic to do it.
the haines does not give a clear procedure on this and it had al and i scratching our head when we took his engine apart.
have a read of the haines and you'll see what youre up against.-BAZZ

Have a yarn to Mr Wong at Auto France at Artaman(sp) as I understand he does a kit (possibly by Valeo) for the cambelt that includes belt, tensioner and pump.
We recently did one on a BX, same engine, and the guy who owns it is an ex Cit mechanic who deals with Wongy and has for years and he ordered it as a kit and Wongy knew all about it.
Can't tell you price as it was for his car and he bought it.

If it ain't broke, use a 12" shifter.....that usually does the trick!!
