    Default Custom exhaust....

My brother is looking to get a custom made exhaust manifold/extractors for his Saab 99 and was quoted $1100. Does this sound right, maybe a little high?

Has anybody got an suggestions for a good exhaust place in Melbourne?

This is a decent price, anywhere. Is it stainless? A point of caution: A custom set-up is only as good as the person building it. I would get some references.

    Hi,
Thanos is correct - extractors are only as good as the person making them.
There are only 2 good exhaust places in Melbourne, i know the name of one; Unique Exhausts - Barry St. Bayswater. I wouldn't go anywhere else.

    Cheers,

Whay type is he hoping to get? For a Saab I'd be thinking 4-2-1. $1100 may be a little high if it's only mild steel, although you more often than not get what you pay for.

Your brother should steer away from stainless because a. it can crack if it regularly gets very hot and b. cost.

Is the $1100 for just the extractors, or a full exhaust system? If it's just the extractors, it may also be worth uprading the remaining exhaust system to capitalise on the extra flow.

he was looking at mild steel with ceramic(???) coating I think. I would imagine he would be upgrading the rest of the system too. Anyway, looking for names more than anything, I will pass on the bayswater mob, thanks.

I could recommend Ross Campbell of Exhaust Fix 14 Windsor Rd, Croydon [Phone: 9722 9766] - he knows what he is about, unlike some other places that profess to.
    Hope this helps.

If thats a full system with ceramic coating then thats a good price, ceramic coating basically keeps the exhaust cooler, it's really good stuff.

i recomend the midas on whitehorse rd in balwyn beleive it or not as the guy who owns it is very fussy and a very good exhaust maker.
he made mine on the 205 gti and it took him quite a while but its a very good job.
my mechanic inspected it for me and said it looks and works very well.
he cleaned up the alloy tips that were on it to look like new .
his name is mark and he owns that particular franchise.
i went with stainless pipe and first muffler but for cost reasons aluminium rear muffler.
it also sounds pretty damn nice.
