MI 16 is the one you want according to Peter T. Your first gear would be pretty useless though.
The ultimate is the Series 3 gearbox with Mi16 diff, gives a similar first to the Series 1 but a lower second and everything else very close.

You can buy a brand new 4.8 crown wheel and pinion set from ABMOTORSPORT. I Don't know if it would fit the BE1 as it says it's suitable for BE3. You could always change the box. It's also not cheap at 550 pounds plus a fair wack for freight and duty. Thay are made for this mob by Quaife.

You should really speak with Adrian Wuillemin. As well as BE1 and BE3, there are also many combinations of gear sets which may or may not work when mixing and matching. Start looking for a BE1 Mi16 gearbox. I know you can definitely mix and match with that.

Parry and I both use the 205GTi/4.43:1 combination. Wuillemins prefer the 4.06:1 diff.

To answer your original question, S1/S2 are 3.94:1, S3 are 3.62:1.

4.8:1 diffs are fitted to Peugeot commercial vans.

Peter, my UK spec 1.9 has a BE1 box, this would have the same ratios as the Australian Series 3 BE3? It does have a long first, close ratios, but doesn't feel all that tall geared in 5th.
